Antihistamine

Have allergic reaction to post op dressing which I must try to keep on until Thursday. Rang nurse at hospital and she suggested trying Piriton to calm irritation.

Although of course they knew of my steroid history last week, I didn't ask the nurse on the end of the phone today if it was ok to take Piriton and Prednisolone (4mg). Does anybody know if this is ok. Also taking codeine for post op pain.

I think you should be okay, but if in doubt check with pharmacist before taking.

I have taken it with

Positive effect no negatives, it seems to be useful for allergy type things that we seem prone to.

There shouldn't be any problems other than drowsiness from the Piriton and the Codeine. Plus constipation from the Codeine.

Thanks. They have sent me home with Dioctyl 100 mg capsules (docusate sodium). They are very good. I would recommend them for post op constipation

No reason why not - I take loratidine and pred regularly. But the pred is probably damping down that allergic reaction. I'd have wanted a different dressing - which the nurse could have offered.

Thanks. Yes have had dressing changed by nurse at my own health centre. It was only when I phoned the hospital where I had the op 30 miles away that they suggested Piriton. I was surprised that after one little tablet the irritation was immediately calmed.

You were lucky - I developed an itchy rash in response to an ACE inhibitor (it is not uncommon) but nothing calmed that except stopping it!
