I've seen a few posts about the benefits of pilates and wanted to add that I've also found it very beneficial. Had pmr for 3 years. Had to give up yoga after 20 years as I just couldn't cope with the exercises, especially getting up and down off the floor. I was like Jones from Dad's Army, always a few beats behind. I find the small, intense, subtle movements required in pilates really help with the aches, especially my sore knees. And not too much up and down off the floor.

So agree, and since my knee op have been doing my exercises on a reformer bench, so no struggling off the floor!

I do seated Pilates which is just as beneficial as normal Pliates that I used to be able to do. Use the chair for balance work as well. Good as I also have osteoarthritis in hips and osteospirosis in spine just an add on to PMR/GCA.

I’m keen to try seated Pilates. As well as PMR for last 4 years I also have atrial fibrillation and shortly to have further exploratory tests re pulmonary hypertension. I am very breathless at the slightest exertion. Can you recommend s DVD title which may be suitable. ? Thanks.

I also enjoy Pilates and am so happy that I’ve been able to continue it. Some days I’m very slow to get going but I always feel better after the class. I’m also 3 years into this journey 😱

Have tried yoga this year and find it really hard to hold positions etc.

Hopefully it’s doing us some good!

I really miss it - but it would cost me a fortune here!

get a DVD, as long as you go carefully.

You can design your own Pilates sequences by watching Youtube. I did, and it only takes 20 minutes to help strengthen certain parts of my body that really hurt. I found Yoga didn't help at all.

Absolutely Pilates. I don't enjoy exercise classes I get bored in Gyms but I make myself go to Pilates 3 times a week. When I was on 60mg Pred I could hardly walk my back went stiff and my legs would give way. 3 months previous I was fit enough to go for a run after work. My Rhuemy sent me to Pilates and it has been amazing, I still have morning stiffness and pain but I think that is tapering, but never in my back, I am lots stronger, can walk the dog bend down to tie bootlaces. I think I would be pretty disabled had I not been pushed into it. Hospital told me I had grown half an inch, I think that is my spine stretching and why I have no back pain.
