Anyway!
Drizzly park yesterday morning. Feeding coots,moorhens & mallards, scooting walking paratrooping the water to get the grub! Felt a strange almost silent presence behind! 50 at least Canada Geese eating the grass high on the hill are there! Big bruisers they are! Too many now!

That tree is stunning and your mindful walk amongst the water birds. Those Canadian Geese have been coming there since I was a child. They scared me then and they scare me now. Bruisers indeed.
More than 30 years ago I lived in Pimlico and worked in Soho and liked to walk to and from work. One day when walking through St James's Park at dusk, I was pursued by about 20 Canada geese, honking like mad. I ran as fast as I could but they managed to keep up with me. They nipped at my legs and later when I examined them, I found they had managed to bite through my tights and draw blood (admittedly only a small amount). I was scared they would follow me home, but when I got to the bridge across the lake, they stopped and just honked loudly at me until I was out of sight. I assume the bridge was the limit of their territory. A few months later I read that the Royal Parks commission had decided to cull the Canada geese in the park, because they'd had so many complaints about their aggressive behaviour from tourists and others.
They can be really aggressive when rearing the chicks. The inside of their beak is like a rasp. One once jumped on the back of a friends dog! Very intimidating with a large number coming at you! You must have been petrified!
At one time our parks controlled the numbers by taking the eggs but with all the council cutbacks this does't appear to be done now!
It was a terrifying experience, although everybody at work found it very funny and the story was repeated to newcomers for years. I'm not surprised the Romans used geese as watchdogs, though they couldn't have been Canada geese. After that I took the bus home at night until Spring when it got lighter in the evening.
There was a belligerent white goose a few years ago in this park who was rehoused in the "Nature Centre" because of complaints! Shame really but he/she could be a nasty piece of work! Certainly the protector of the flock. (Or psycho!)
Once in Ireland I had to cross a field where the canada geese had spent the night. Not an easy job! Definately not what you need in a park.
Around here they can strip an entire field of a young crop over night, not popular.
Good news about the doc. I had a similar one today.... as long as your'e still reducing I'm OK with that, and for the first time ever he agreed to dexa scan, it must be Christmas.
Talking of Christmas my son had his first card today....do what?
It's another Japanese Maple. Acer palmatum "Senkaki" hybrid, grown from seed collected from the Botanical gardens 18 years ago. I think it's our best one.
Yes it is Jane. It's a bit hit & miss with the germination & because of cross pollination of the various Acer's, you can never be sure for years what they will turn out like!
In our village we are not even supposed to feed the ducks, signs up everywhere designed by the local school children. The village pond or 'dub' is allegedly home to the great crested newt to that end any application to build houses here is objected to as it might destroy their habitat. The fact is the dub is on a housing estate anyway.

Signs up here not to feed them bread! (Angel Wing) I feed them grain mostly! Supposed to like lettuce so the notice says! They don't seem very interested when I've offered it! As a result hey don't get as much food from people now so are more hungry!

Love the Acer colours, I keep mine small as it blocks my view from the kitchen but is still so beautiful at this time of year - makes you stop and stare at this time of year...... Would love to see Boston in the fall.....have you ever been?
Not been to any of the Americas T. Must be superb with all that colour.
Visited many Arboretums & Botanical & private gardens over here though. Trees are special. Have a character about them I find soothing & impressive.
Exceptional colour here this Autumn. The reds, now the yellows..... As the leaves fall off a carpet better than any made! Have to mind those hidden tree roots though! ATB
Colours have been poor here despite the very hot summer - because we've only had a single frost and it was a bit half-hearted!!! Then we got blown away together with a good washing...
Wonderful News from the Dr. Love your Acer. We have lovely fall leaves also but now an inch of snow! Very usual with leaves on here. Very cold today so I think my unheated little greenhouse is done for the season. My 4 year old granddaughter wondered if it was Christmas now 🎄
