Eye test goes brill!!

When I saw gp last week I mentioned vision had changed a bit but that could just be the yearly change I seem to have with my shortsighted vision. He said he didn’t reckon it was anything to worry about as only been on pred 5/6 weeks but to book an urgent eye test just to make sure. As per usual I got the trainee to do the pre tests and I completely freaked him when I mentioned I was actually only there because of my Pmr. Poor lad didn’t have a clue what I was saying but luckily my optician was standing there overseeing the trainee and jumped right in with lots of question. Outcome was I got the reassurance I needed that my eyes were in great condition and no signs of cataracts or glaucoma (in the family). My vision changing was that I had changed by 3 points in a year so my glasses were way out!! Plus now got an eye test every 6 months rather than every 2 years. As my eyes change every year a test every 2 years wasn’t that brill anyway. Optician asked about my dosage and time since diagnosis and even said that basically although pred has side effects there is no other treatment and if he was in that position he wouldn’t hesitate to take it. So I now love my optician as well as my gp and physio.

That sounds like a very positive and helpful experience. It always makes you feel better if your eyes are getting appropriate attention, and our conditions are understood.

I have been incredibly lucky in getting some decent doctors/specialists especially when I have seen how some people on the forum get treated so badly by theirs.

That's great news! It's always lovely to hear the positives, and it's something less for you to be concerned about. My eye test will be soon I am sure, I was only thinking about it yesterday. I shall have to get it booked.

I tend to change vision wise every year but was just s little bit worried it might have been the pred but optician requested extra tests to double check and luckily it’s just my usual yearly change only a bigger one than usual. You do need to get yours checked if you are due a test. Like you say it’s reassuring if nothing else. Book it today!
