When will the exhaustion end ?

I am in my 4th year of pmr and am down to 4mg of Pred, I also have Kyphoscoliosis with a severely twisted spine. I got talked into having a Haloween Party on Monday for 4 children under 5 and their Moms. I then had fireworks on Thursday for seven people and my Grandaughter who is four stayed over on Thursday night.

Even though my Husband bore the brunt of food preparation and cleaning up afterwards I feel so exhausted now that I can't even pick a knitting needle up or be bothered to get any lunch.

I just wonder, will being so exhausted ever go away.

Hi Attic

I’ve been off my feet the last three days following a small surgery on my back. l just can’t bear the thought of entertaining anymore & l used to love it, no matter what.

I’m glad your husband helped, where would we be without them?

As you say you’re on 4mg, that may keep the PMR at bay but you have no reserves QED Exhaustion. I’m starting my drop to 7.5mg from 8mg on Monday & more than ever l realise l have to put myself first.

I’m sure you loved having the children but it has to be balanced against a couple of rest days. I’m trying to adopt that ethos now but know some people think l’m over precious but they don’t understand.

So a few days rest is in order now & next year a combined Halloween/Bon Fire Night Party maybe?

At the stage you are at the fatigue will go away when your adrenal function returns to normal. It is probably worth asking your doctor to request a synacthen test to see if your adrenal glands are CAPABLE of producing cortisol again - doesn't show if they ARE doing so but knowing they can is a start. Then you have to be patient.

Pacing was the name of the game for living with PMR - now it is the name of the game until your adrenals wake up. I have little problem with fatigue (just can't be botheredness) - what you did last week makes me feel tired. Personally, I feel whoever blackmailed you into doing all that should feel ashamed of themselves. I would possibly have hosted - but those mums would have done the work. You might have been OK for one of the events, both was asking for trouble. Even 4 under 5s in the house would have finished me - never mind having a party!!

It is pretty normal after what you’ve just put yourself through. Rest and get things into proportion. Maybe have a Synacthen Test in case your Adrenals are struggling though.

Thanks ladies for your replies. We do get pressurised into things occasionally, because when we say we are tired people think it is the same sort of tiredness you have when you have had a bad nights sleep, if only.

I am going to be more forceful in future and put myself first for a change. I wouldn't want to get that exhausted again. I will ask for the test that you have suggested. Thank you.

Hi Attic,

I am in the same spot as you; pmr into 3rd year; down to 4mg Prednisone and also exhausted many days, even after doing nothing! I am dreading the holidays b/c no energy to enjoy or prepare for them.

My favorite time of day is bedtime.

Sorry for your pain and fatigue.

I'd take a bit more over the holidays - and if it helps, get your doctor to check your adrenal function too.
