The headaches are about gone but now I'm more aware of my jaw and tongue being tired when chewing or not. Anyone else experiences this?

I take it you are not reducing the dose at present?

Day 14,not reducing yet. I do have Tmj and some arthritis in jaw along with osteopenia. Plus I’ve got hamster cheeks now, maybe that contributing to symptoms, no pain on chewing, but tongue at times does tend to get a little tired. On 50 mg.

Think you've answered your own question then - not necessarily related to GCA.

I hope that’s true!

I’d like to mention also my parotid glands are often painful, but not all the time. Symptoms are so confusing, see my rheumy tomorrow.

The tired jaw never left me, even on 80 mgs of prednisone. Tongue is okay though.

What dose are you on now and is your jaw still tired?

I'm currently at 4/5 and jaw gets tired still, when eating. You would think that would be a good way to lose weight, but I carry on lol. Just takes me a long time to finish a meal.

Yes I sometimes have a jaw ache whether chewing or not. It is tricky deciding if it is the GCA returning. Haven't had any other diagnosis! Pred. tension can have effect & if stressed I tend to clench my jaw which must tire the muscles.

When were you dx with gca and what dosage are you now on? Yes, it is tricky to tell the difference. Thanks for your input.

Late May 2017. Positive biopsy. On 40 mg for 4 weeks. Fast reduction to 20 mg over 2 weeks (10 per week). After the usual initial euphoria I had big mood swings on 40 mg. Currently on 12.5 mg. Best I've done so far after a number of flares at 15 mg. Different for us all I think! ATB

Wow! You tapered fast. Did you have many symptoms as you did so?

in reply togtate1914

I didn't register any particular ones. I must admit I was more concerned with reining in some of my irrational thinking & reactions!

I do - I'm on 4.5mg now and still get it, not all the time and not when eating - the same as Pepperdoggie jaw tension but no other diagnosis either. I am trying to reduce and think it's something to do with that, get the headache first day of taper then this jaw ache, makes me think I'm not on a high enough dose... Have been down to 3mg previously but struggling this time. ATB.
