Psoriasis and PMR

Hi All,

Its been a while since I did a post, have been doing well with no symptoms to speak of and down to 4mg/day after a slow taper. However, probably over the past 3 months I have noticed a rash getting progressively worse between my ankles and the top of my sock line and appears to be psoraisis which my father had from a young age, -I'm 70. My understanding is this is an unusual place to get it, seeing doctor n a copy of days to get confirmation. It is apparently an autoimmune condition. Any comments or advice appreciated. John

A gentle non bio washing powder is my first thought. The experts will be along soon. Must be irritating - poor you.

Hi John.

Can’t help really but wanted to say Hi!

Can only assume that you’ve done the Kiwi thing of wearing socks in the winter only (even in sunny Auckland) and maybe something has irritated the skin!

Sorry shouldn’t joke- sure it’s not nice.

Take care.

Oh dear... NZ is not a happy place today then!

I’m good thanks, recovering from knee replacement op.

Great summer, still warm days now but getting a bit autumnal mornings and evenings.

Say hi to Polly.

Hope you soon get legs sorted.

How is your knee replacement going? I have had both knees done, within 12 weeks of each other, which, on reflection, was a bit ambitious. They are great 2 years on, no pain, walking, swimming, the works. Hope it is good for you too. X

Knee is coming along nicely thanks. Bit of a problem with opposite hip - but that’s another story! Not arthritis though, thankfully.

As a young woman every autumn I'd get the worst itchy ankles, would keep me awake at night. Finally associated it with wearing socks again after summer sandals, plus very dry skin, so problem easily sorted. Try the simple solutions first: different washing powder and maybe an extra rinse for the socks, and effective, non-scented skin cream or lotion. You may even need to think about a change of socks brand; maybe you are reacting to the fabric, or elastic, or something like that.

It may even be your PMR is not, in fact, PMR. There is a form of inflammatory arthritis called psoriatic arthritis which can present just like PMR - and can appear before psoriasis appears or after. Hope it is just the socks though!
