Hello. I was diagnosed with PMR in March 2023 but had pain from October 2022 which GP put down to deferred pain from hip problem which I had seen a physio who gave me excercises which with hindsight cured the hip pain. I had Covid vaccine in early October and I didn’t make the connection at the time but looking back it does seem the PMR started just after the jab. When I mentioned this to my GP she said she couldn’t discount it but there was no proven link either. I wondered if anybody else had a similar experience. Previously I was fit and healthy and hadn’t been sick for years so it came as a surprise to get something like this out of nowhere. I have been fairly ok so being put on pred in April and have found that a cold shower for 3 minutes helps get me going in the mornings.

PMR and Covid vaccine
Hello, Your post will have caused the page to show related posts which you can now click on. All vaccines can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and make the immune system start to shoot at its own. Some people have had PMR symptoms after Covid itself, along with other infections, injury and stress.
As for lack of proven link, it depends on whether it has been purposefully checked, whether the GP has looked for the research or if the findings have been widely publicised and easily obtained. Also, as with any drugs reactions, if doctors don’t report it because their own personal filters have ruled it out, it won’t add to the stats. It’s a tricky one all round.
Hi and welcome!
A COLD shower? Lots of us find a warm shower and stretch does the job - but a cold shower would made me seize up entirely!!! Each to his own ...
Pretty much ANY vaccine could be the final trigger that set the immune system into freefall and caused an autoimmune condition and it is a warning on a few including flu and shingles vaccines. And I think (not sure) that the link HAS been established - there is at least substantial suspicion - and it doesn't surprise us!
Many things can be the final trigger - illness, trauma, stress of all sorts. No one thing does it - and it is a final straw after years of what are called insults to the immune system and it has a paddy and turns on your body instead of foreign things.
Hi. I think the link has been accepted. I reported my PMR as a side effect on the NHS yellow card scheme. You can claim (methinks) on the COVID compensation scheme but you have yo be 60% didsbled, although how you measure this who knows??
Here you attend an assessment board and the results of that together with medical reports achieve a score, Various disabilities contribute - loss of vision, loss hearing, inability to walk given distances and so on and are added together. Here the boards comprise doctors and other specialists. No idea what happens in the UK.
I have had PMR since Aug. 21 but was diagnosed by GP, with "Old Age" until Dec. 21. Pharmacist asked why no bloodwork? I insisted on blood tests for RA. Markers were high. The pains started in May 2021 after my first Pfizer jab. I thought it was just my neck, shoulders and attributed it to many pillows I bought, which did not help. In Aug. 21, the pain hit the fan. Completely incapacitated with all the pain. This just 10 days after the second jab. I don't believe in coincidence. My now-retired GP finally referred me to a Neurologist in Jan. 22, who diagnosed PMR. Put on 20 mg. Pred, which helped overnight. The saga contines.
Yes, my PMR started after the covid vaccine booster
I have thought that myself!! Mine flared up after my covid jab..as did my friend too. Lots don’t want another due to health probs after jabs. Think it affects the immune system !!!
I am 100 percent certain mine was from the Covid vaccine.
