I am so glad that you have pushed for coordinated help. I am sorry that you have to add steroids into the mix. I really hope that the relief from pain and stiffness outweighs any other symptom. The age for PMR tends to be 50+ but you definitely are at the young end. We have had people much younger contributing to this site - I hope it’s not a trend. Do stick with us. I would be very interested in how you are fairing.
Other people have said that PMR has followed a virus. It’s interesting about the flu jab. It might just be a horrible coincidence. Take care.

No - over 50 is in the guidelines. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen younger either -just it is less common in younger people. I was 51 when it started.
Pleased you have some sensible help now - hope it all goes well.
Anything that stresses the immune system can contribute - and any vaccine will stress the immune system. It won't be the only factor - but maybe the one that broke the camel's back.
My Dr. says to get the flu shot. Got it last year without problems. Reducing to 4.5 mg Pred. What is your opinion about getting it or not?
You will not necessarily have mood problems, I didn’t, although my sister did say no one would notice anyway!!
Out of interest what dose did they put you on?
It's good you have the key people looking out for you, it will make you feel more confident. I'm sure all will go well.
I am at 7mg currently. I was prescribed 20mg to start with in September of 2017. I am 71. I did get a geriatric psychiatrist involved because my anxiety and I guess depression was through the roof. I am doing better now.
I was 55 as well when diagnosed, but symptoms came 5 months earlier after a nasty upper respitory infection, and a week of intense exercise after months of inactivity. I have since found out I have chronic issues and OA in both knees, and the PMR presented there first and then spread to shoulders, neck, etc. Add to this I was going through a lot of change and stress (marriage, retirement, move, renovations). I think all of these factors contributed to the onset of PMR.
So glad you have a team of professionals you are working with. I now have my GP, Rheumy, Ortho surgeon, physiotherapist, and clinical therapist, not to mention a few good friends and my family.
Hope all goes smoothly for you moving forward.
