Especially "white carbs" - they are processed very quickly to glucose - and cause a BS spike.
Well...that too, but does the BS affect your cravings? Whatever, I’ve been visualising these sugar cinnamon donuts and when I am near where they ‘live’ I’m not caring anymore-so far.
Well yes - because when the BS rises it triggers insulin release to get the BS level back to normal. But often there is too much insulin and the BS falls too low - so they body tells you you need something to bring it back up. Rinse and repeat. High BS is followed by low BS which makes you hungry so you eat, is followed by high BS ...
If you eat complex carbs the rise is slower and the insulin release is more gradual so the problem is less likely to arise. And if you don't eat carbs - BS doesn't rise in the same way.
Good to know. Thanks
Back to my Epiphany...if you don’t give up ALL (except those natural ones) carbs then you will find it impossible to give up sugar. I was on plant based for years & ate all the right grains and could never get beyond the sugar. I’m sticking with none of those carbs.
Decades ago I gave up refined carbs and sugar, as well as salt. Salt was easy but sugar cravings persisted for some years.
In the past decade, I have had reason to moderate my consumption of whole grains. I have no hint of metabolic syndrome but maintaining body weight is challenging despite food aplenty.
Key to everything. What you implied “moderation”. I don’t believe in that for willpower or sugar cravings. Mine went away with NO added carbs. But I admit without the grains I get hungry. I’m working on that. Nuts or carrots?
More fat and protein is key to appetite suppression.

The study was done in mice - and what happens in mice does not always transfer to humans. And this is what is popularly known as High fat, Low carb - with very low carb levels, under an ounce of carbs per day. Not quite the same as cutting processed carbs drastically.
