I've even washed the dusters - by hand!!

Good morning all! I've Just upped my preds to the last time I remember being pain free - around 5mg. Reason - hip and wrist pain. My doc said the hip pain was probably an age thing..right......before PMR I was a pain free horse riding, 70km a week dog walker, not all in one go mind you! No signs of bone/joint problems at all. So I tried paracetamol on the hip, no joy, then ibuprofen, ditto. Then I got wrist pain - just in one wrist........it got " worser and worser" and not responding to paracetamol or ibuprofen. So upped from 2mg to 5mg..........MAGIC!!! after 2 days pain almost gone1 Ahhh! But now hyper again!!! I mean i just washed my dusters!!! Am feeling like something exciting is going to happen, and i'm not that worked up about the World Cup, and as Andy's not playing in Wimbledon it's not that..........so must be the preds again. I've got a docs appointment beginning of August so plenty of time to sort myself out and tell him my tale. I'd be interested to know how many of you out there have had wrist pain in one wrist as a symptom of PMR.

I get wrist pain in my right wrist as a fail-safe sign of an incipient flare. If I wait long enough the left wrist may also join in.

And by the way - you are NUTS!! Next time try lying down in a darkened room until the feeling passes...

Thank you PMRpro that is such useful info about the wrist. But as for lying down in a darkened room that is so hard to do when you're feeling hyper, but next time I get any similar urges I will say to myself PMRpro would say I'm nuts............and then lie down somewhere!

All I can say is I wish I could feel hyper!!!!!

Mmm. Not sure about that - I was awake at just before 5 this morning and that wasn't early when I was on higher doses - often 3am and not being able to get back to sleep again!!! Do you thin I should up from 5mg. Had a decent walk for the first time in ages today as I was feeling so good - hips telling me otherwise now..........a step too far as they say..........

Give the 5mg a few days - if you have hip bursitis it will tke longer than the muscles to improve.

I was awake from about 3 to 5 am this morning - after having slept through the previous night! Pred has never really made me hyper or affected my sleep. Plenty of other things do though!

I'm also getting wrist pain in left hand when I wake up. I'm right handed so what's going on. I managed to get down to 3mg for a few weeks and then tried 2mg without a taper because I was feeling very pain free and good. However after a week had pain in left shoulder. This was definitely a flair, so the next morning whent back to 7 mg for one day. Next day took 5mg and next day took 3 mg and for last 4 days pain free. This morning woke with rist pain but as I got moving around and getting more mobile and took 3mg of pred things have been ok all day. The guestion is, is 3mg ok to stay on this for a while or is my body telling me that's not enough pred ?

I suppose you have to see if it improves - if it does 3mg is enough. OTOH, if 4mg is better, it is still a very low dose.

I had a very uncomfortable wrist a few weeks ago - it has gone away without increasing the dose but I am rather higher than you at present. It was different from the flare discomfort though, more like an injury though I have no idea what could have brought it on.

Thanks for the reply PMRpro, you have confirmed my thoughts on this dilemma. I'll see how it goes.

It's nearly 4 years since the original symptoms started and that was pain in shoulders and buttock area and difficulty in walking and getting out of the car. I also had the influenza type of feelings :-( I did not experience the pain in the wrist when it all started so I suppose something has to complain after about four years of PMR, it's only the last few months when on about 3mg when the wrist pain started. As I mentioned it usually improved when I became active and after the pred dose.

However whilst the dreaded fatigue has improved/diminished it still catches me out now and again, it usually hits without warning and I just have to stop what I am doing and crash out for a while. Usually a little nap for about 20 mins seems to sort it out. I put this down to the adrenals not fully functioning and the fact that I am four years older.

Makes me grin when I think back to when the rheumatologist said I will be on steroid for eighteen months and the PMR will have gone. Ha !

Watch this space I suppose. :-)

Have you seen the "13 types of fatigue" essay from the Sjogren's group? Though why on earth they are so arrogant as to think it only applies to them is beyond me!!!

Thanks, I'll take a look !

Well I took a look, and can immediately relate to many of the symptoms. Quite frightening really, don't know what to think, if you see what I mean ☹️😱

I was in France when diagnosed - and my GP there was even more optimistic ?unrealistic?- take these (prednisilone) for 12 months and you'll be cured.....I wish!!! I've learnt a lot since joining this family!

in reply toMamaBeagle

Yes me too (learned a lot) 😀

My Doctor suggested using a wrist brace while sleeping which has cured my problem without meds.

A friend also tried it and it worked!!

I've done that sadly to no effect - also done acupressure ditto!! Pleased yours worked though, keep going!!

I wouldn't be that unkind, we all do mad things occasionally, but I know what you meant don't like to put the dusters in with the wash for some reason, suppose you thought you could give them a good scrub - they never look clean anyway!

People still use dusters?

MamaBeagle profile image
MamaBeagle in reply toHeronNS

Well technically speaking I suppose they're not real dusters, they're cut up T- shirts and only get a couple of washes before going for recycling!

Not what you're looking for?
