Thank you for your wise replies. I am glad that you all seem to pretty much agree with my strategy but it won't be easy resisting the persistence of the Rheumy nurse specialist who seems to be on a methotrexate mission. My Father has had PMR on and off for well over 20 years (he is almost 96) and he has been on a maintenance dose of 10mg pred for a number of years now. He hasn't crumbled yet either!

To be fair, I have had avascular necrosis of the right hip which may be their over-riding concern but I do take adcal and magnesium, plus live yogurts etc. The MRI -if and when it happens- should indicate any issues with the left hip I guess.

I am definitely not prepared to take anything else at the moment!

Thanks and best wishes to you all

Wendy

What is a vascular necrosis? I have been having severe burning pain in my right hip but my X-rays of my hips were normal.

Avascular necrosis basically means death of bone. It can occur with various diseases, or trauma, which stops the blood flow to the bone. It’s also an uncommon side effect of long term (or sometimes can happen quite quickly) steroids.

Just say NO! They can’t force you to take anything.

I recommend taking Vitamin K2 Mk7 with your Adcal to help the calcium go to the bones vs the arteries.

Wishing you as well as you can be :)
