This afternoon, the bees

Can’t remember who posted a photo like this last week but here’s another. There are lots of tiny bell like flowers on the underside which I thought were too tiny to interest bees but sitting quietly I noticed there were quite a lot of bees going from one flower to the next. This was one of the first plants we bought for the garden and I thought the flowers were too small for it to be any use as a food for bees but I was wrong, sitting in the garden is a learning event not entirely a rest! 🐝

That looks like the kiwi vines we planted, now removed. It's a fine looking plant! We think we didn't get both male and female plants as there was never any fruit, in spite of labels.

Can’t remember what it was called we have had it about fifteen years, it did very little for about two years then suddenly started growing we think it’s trying to strangle the shed! Shame you can’t see the flowers they are so pretty.

When we had to cut ours down (long story) the stems of the vine were big woody coils winding themselves up the pergola. It was quite interesting to see how it had grown, but we never got any berries, both plants seemed to have the same kind of flowers so either both male or both female, although had been labelled as one of each.

It’s kolomikta actinidia - I’ve got two different varieties of it on the wall over my dining room window and I love the way the leaves look as if they’ve been splashed with paint - very Alice in Wonderland! But the snails love it too😧

Thank you for the name, no problem with snails the birds earn their keep! We had a wonderful picture last summer of two baby sparrows in the bird bath and a third having a shower under the water feature, sadly no camera to hand.

Beautiful!!!!!!

Time to stop and stare. The best gift!

We read that poem at my Dad's funeral - it was one of his philosophies.

Sitting in the garden is very educational ....and therapeutic! I just love it! And no flower is too small for a bee!

A heavenly spot. We loved being on Lake Como too. Especially this time of year. I wonder if George and Amal Clooney are back from the wedding and in their house on Como yet?

If they are it's probably raining on their parade today! Even the Italian lakes have off days!

Hi,your vine looks lovely,l expect it gives plenty of shelter for the birds too.lt is so good to get out in the garden after such a long winter, there is always something needs doing which keeps me very busy ,l am thinking of making some lmprovements to make it a bit easier as the PMR does slow me down, all the best,Patricia.

Superb specimen CT-5012. I posted ours last week. It's an "Actinidia Koloikta". A Kwiwi .Ours is about 20 years old but planted in a pot. North facing. Amazing colour change of the leaves.

Thanks, pred head as usual. Nice cover for an ugly shed and it looks after its self which is always good. 😊

Gave ours a pruning last year & it's all the better for it. As you say it wipes it's own face and we need plants like that!

Just a few minutes in the garden can be so rewarding. Yesterday I listened to the bees buzzing around the potted lavender and then saw two tiny blue butterflies chasing around the shrubs. Wonderful calming influence.
