Well done! Hoping you won't notice the effects of the drop too much.

Have you recovered from your trip oop North? Did you find anything suitable?

in reply toRugger

THANKS! Have recovered 80%... still feeling a bit "off," but nothing I can't handle. A bit scary reducing today, but... NO GUTS, NO GLORY!

I found a few places I loved... Hubby on the other hand! : (

Congratulations mamici1! I always thought of reducing the steroids as a bit of a 'holding the breath', exciting moment. Best wishes for continued better health and being able to kick the Pred habit.

Take care xx

Woooooo Hoooooo! Thanks, BirmLiz! We shall see what this brings! : )

YOURS is of course by far the most significant of all those '45s' Melissa !!

I was going to try another 0.5mg reduction myself after returning from my short trip to see the family - it WAS fun especially as Ruth had arranged a wee early 'surprise' birthday lunch for me with all of them so there was MUCH overindulgence by me ! Regardless of the long drives and all the additional excitement I felt good most of the time but have returned with a rather sore lower back - I think from a LOT of extra walking I enjoyed doing around the city and the galleries we visited. So now it is time to 'pay' the price and perhaps wait for the next step down for a few more days - but it WAS sure worth it !

in reply toRimmy

Ohhhhh Rimmy I am so happy you had a good time and that you "overindulged!" Good on you!!!! I was most sure about dropping the 5mg today, as I too have been feeling the "effects" of traveling and a few minor overindulgences, but as I said above NO GUTS, NO GLORY! What's the worse that can happen? I'll feel like hell... it's not like I haven't been THERE before! 45 is the lowest I have ever been and I was only on 45 for like 3 days before I "crashed and burned." So we shall see where this leads us! I hope you don't have to pay to big a price... xxxxx

Fingers crossed for you mamici1. It sounds so much less than 50 somehow. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

in reply toSheffieldJane

Thank you!! I know right???? I'm so excited!!!!

45 is the lowest I have ever achieved, but I was there for only like 3 days before I "crashed and burned." I went from 40 to 60, 55, 50, "45," 60, 80, 75, 70, 65, 60, 55, 50, and now the elusive, unicorn 45 again! Fingers crossed. xxx

Hi. FAB!! Now that you’re at a medium - ish dose, I would consider getting some 1mg tablets and go a bit slower than -5 each time. Dropping by 5mg at this dosage is a big %. Just my opinion.

I’m now at 16mg from original 40 and once I got to 25 I started reducing by -1mg each week now, with no flare and no side affects *touches wood*

Hope you get on ok 👍

Karey

in reply to

Ohhhh good on you Karey! Touch wood indeed!!!

My Rheumy's plan is to drop by 5mg every 30 days until we hit 25 and then we do a DSNS. We'll see where 45 takes us...

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

At least you know it's entirely possible that 5 mg drops from this point may not be reasonable. No reduction more than 10% remember! But glad you've got this far without issues.

in reply toHeronNS

Yes... I am a little concerned that in 30 day she will have me dropping more than the recommended 10%. I will see how I go for the next moth and how I feel and make a decision at that time.

Oh, I had "issues, " I just had them early on. My first taper down was a fiasco!!!!! 40 to 60, down to 45 where I almost died.... Up to 80 because 60 did nothing! Was on 80 for a month!!!! ....and now finally back to 45. All since November. Yo Yo Maamici

Just do 2.5mg one week and the same the next (or so). Plain pred or g/r?

in reply toPMRpro

Plain. So PMRpro, are you saying at the end of this 30 day cycle, reduce by only 2.5, not 5.0? And then another 2.5 mg the following week? and then stay there for the 2 remaining weeks?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to

Something like that. You can cut your plain pred no bother - pill cutter from the pharmacy. And if it doesn't work with the first 2.5mg you know to wait a bit. What the eye doesn't see the heart doesn't grieve over...

There are 4 weeks in a 30 day cycle... ;-)

in reply toPMRpro

Got it! Cool, thanks!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

It is, actually, gentler than the taper in the Bristol taper which has a 10 mg drop every four weeks until 20.

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

How fast was that first taper?

in reply toHeronNS

5 mg every 7 days.

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

Owch! i think things are bound to go much better this time around. And you know what to look for. And PMRpro's suggestion to split the taper into two parts and do two weeks at 2.5 instead of 5 for four weeks sounds like a great idea for when the whole step becomes more than 10%.

in reply toMstiles

Thanks! 30 days at each new mg until I get to 25 mg and then we go DSNS.

Yippee! I went to my pilates class today. First time for 5 weeks. I managed at least half of each exercise so I am feeling pretty smug. I have noticed funny smells but I blame it on the kitties. things do not taste the same, I have even gone off my 1 daily diet coke. ( Don't like tea or coffee). EEk! just thought maybe it is me I can smell not other people or things. Ah Well nothing I can do about it.:)
