Look good when you go out and you'll see no one you know. Dare to go out looking less than your best and you'll be sure to see everyone you've ever met! But for a doctors office - look much less than your best so they take you seriously.

I once took my toddler with me to an urgent care type doctor because I had strong symptoms of pneumonia. The doctor looked at my girl - clean, dressed, and eating breakfast in her stroller and said obviously I wasn't too poorly. I burst into tears as it had taken everything out of me to get us there and I wasn't sure how I'd manage the return trip. I actually asked him if he thought I should have left her home alone, dirty in her crib. He took a step back and actually started listening to me!

No, in my experience it is the older ones who judge like that.

In general I prefer a female primary doctor. I think they understand that a household still has to function no matter how the adults feel. That day I followed up with that I had been exposed to strep and so was quite worried. You should have seen him scurry to find his prescription pad!
