So, following encouragement from others (and they're now out of the Will), I purchased a "gentle" exercise machine. Easy to assemble it said. Ha!! After much struggling, it is assembled and I'm too knackered to use it.

Exercise
A few days rest at least then a few days thinking about it would be my advice. 😂
😂 they would be out if my will too. I don't think it is easy for them to understand. Let's face it ut s hard for the sufferer to understand. After Xmas at sisters for 5 days including driving 300plus mile round trip I had to literally spend 5 days in bed. Of course each day I was telling myself off for being lazy and idle etc. Then I have a conversation with that critical self about how as soon as I feel better I get up and at 'em. I have engaged in this process for years now. I have pushed at edges of my ability to try and build stamina but it is slow and steady for me.
Priceless! Now that's what I call Irony...
Go for it 'borednow', rest now like CT-5012 says and whilst resting work out the plan, easy ,light at first, not too much, rest and say to yourself 'all the time I am swimming I am not drowning' (I am a swimmer) whilst you are lightly exercising- this is what I use and it helps, difficult at times But. Take care- John
I love that! I am swimming I am not drowning. I am going to USE that as my mantra in all things. Thanks sucbadiver!
And when it comes to the "gentle exercise" machine - if you do ever bother, do 1 minute and rest. Building up slowly is key...
make yourself a little music. a minute's worth of songs.. so each time the song changes you lighten up or go harder!
Lovely!! The image sits somewhere between Victor Meldrew and Giles cartoons!! It's the New Year Resolution bug!!
I look forward to following your progress. I loved your succinct depiction of the scene of devastation!
On the beneficent effect of cycles... here's one!
Whilst in hospital my dear brother was reading to me at my bedside. The book in hand was relating to an account of a very early Giro d'Italia, 1917 if I remember correctly...the riders were very brave chaps, the wheels on their bikes were wooden rimmed and their brakes were only made of cork! When taking a serious bend at an alarming speed, the author who was re-enacting the Giro, wrote, "I was just hoping they will still manage to give me an open top coffin". As ill as I was, I could not stop laughing. It cheered me up no end!
Agghh, this bicycle business is addictive..so look out! This book is the most brilliant read, the author is such a character. Laughing is good for us. Your non performance on your bike has nevertheless afforded us all a good chuckle, so there is still a positive.
Keep it up!
Poppy
What's the book then?
Hello PMR Pro, apologies for delay, tried looking for my book but could not find it...I believe I lent it to somebody, oh dear 😦.... I looked it up online instead. It is "Gironimo" by British author, Tim Moore. Available on Amazon recently discounted. Amazingly good read. Sadly popular cinema has on many occasions made fun of Italians propagating the misapprehension that as a race they are lazy and rather stupid, whereas they are quite the opposite! The bravery, extraordinary stamina, sense of honour and sheer survival instinct described in this book will on many occasions take your breath away. I absolutely marveled at the whole account; Tim Moore's depth of research and tenacity at attempting the giro himself with as much authenticity as possible, right down to find a contemporary bike with wooden rims, something of museum piece, was such an excellent read. I highly recommend it. It's both educational and delightful in it witty and clever delivery!

The giro and vuelta are now more interesting than le tour most years. Although still a team race it does have more individual stages that are often more up and down than le tour. That said I love them all and one of my favourite contemporary riders is nibali ....a maniac italian!
I love the old stories from 1930s etc. Like three riders catching the train back to Paris and riders having liquid lunches.
I love Nibali! These folk are you be much admired. My dear grandfather used to go on about Fausto Coppi. He actually met him once if I remember correctly! Well just the very name Fausto!!! That's a winner!
😎
I have ordered the book. I will be renewing my eurospor t once the cycling season starts proper. I loved it in 2014 when the tour passed within a 1/4mile from my house. That's when nibali my attention on cote de Jenkin road. 😂
