Oh Lordy, my ribs are painful. Fed up with this blasted illness. Am on 10 mg now and Dr H wants me to stay on that until the end of Jan so going to have to grit my teeth and bear it. Hot pads, Epsom salts and as much rest as is possible at this time of year. Hey ho. Happy Christmas to you all! Xx

No suggestions here - given the season and decided lack of options. Hope it settles down.

Thanks, PMRpro. I just wanted to feel less alone, I think. Appreciate your reply. X

You aren't alone, SusyTe, I have this too. Sigh. Keeping really warm does help.

There was a thread about Costrochondritis, I think it was called, that caused rib pain.

Poor you! Rib pain is miserable. I hope you have someone to look after you.

Mind you, it does excuse you from the bits of Christmas you don’t want. Make yourself comfy and warm and binge watch the telly. With a cup of cheer in your hand ( hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream and a dash of brandy if you want). Baileys basically.

I hope the New Year brings you health, strength and happiness.

Thanks, Jane. My sister and hubby were here earlier but have gone out to pick up a few more foody things. It is difficult for them to understand how this feels. Especially when I am plump and chubby/ruddy- cheeked. Last words as they left were - hope you will be ready to go out when we get back. All I want to do is go to bed. Brother and nephew arriving tomorrow as well. Need to get my timings organised for Christmas lunch. I have said I will be taking a nap this afternoon and I shall do that. I did wonder about costochondritis but reckon this is probably just where the inflammation has decided to reside today. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours. I hope 2018 will be a good year for us all. X

I know about this failure to understand. It’s my worry about Australia really. At least my daughter has married a doctor and he knows about it er now. Get better soon!. The phases this illness goes through. Each worse that the last. Bah humbug!

Don`t try to get others to understand if they don`t....it will only cause you more stress, it`s not worth it, as I have found out......sometimes sadly even my husband struggles with it sometimes....don`t bother now to try to get him to understand........

Have a good Christmas......do it your way!

All the PMR pains are annoying, but I did find the ribby stuff extra irritating. It seems quite ‘common’ but not seen it listed as a symptom by the docs. But what do they know?

Heat pads, yes that eases. Never tried Epsom salts. A glass of wine? Or your favourite Christmas tipple? Alcohol vasodilates, so the pleasure is backed up by theory 😉 it may help ease those muscles.

Gentle stretches, to the sides, arm up and over head, help me. There’s your excuse for not going out this afternoon! Put your tutu on and get to the ballet exercises 😀 “I’m terribly sorry I can’t possibly come out with you, for this afternoon I am a ballerina!” They may not accept that PMR is limiting you, but they’ll surely be concerned for your mental health 😂 and won’t want to be seen out with someone in pink frills!

Back to reality, if you do have to go out, walk tall, imagine a thread from the top of your head pulling you up through your head. Shoulders down and back, swing your arms gently, breathe deeply, get your body into soldier position! Ooh now I feel The Nutcracker coming on 🙄

I think in a lot of cases it is myofascial pain syndrome - when the trigger spots are the waist-level ones and they irritate the nerves supplying the ribs. I had it - but Bowen therapy used to sort it out pretty well . But it's the wrong time of year...

Another virtual hug for you. 🤗 Before I was diagnosed with PMR, doc thought might be costocondritis. Meds I got did nothing for it. I used to sleep with a pillow under my back cos too sore to lie in bed. For a few weeks I even slept in a chair because lying down was agony, so yes, I feel your pain. Poor you. Try to take it easy. Easier said than done I know. Merry Christmas anyway

Thank you so much. I would not wish this on anyone but you have all made me feel less alone and more understood. Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas. Roll on 2018! X

Rib pain frequently keeps me up all night....it is severe and nearly unbearable. Thus, I can empathize with you. Going to try exercises SJ recommended.

Hope your pain goes away soon.

Merry Christmas

Edward

I had terrible rib pain for about 3 months ...couldnt bend to right and it went along bottom of rib cage from sternum to facet joints in bottom couple of ribs. Then I had 2 changes; Steroid sparing agent and a course of anti biotictiestics for sinusitis. The rib pain seemed to disappear In following two weeks. my ribs a bit tender sometimes but ok. Can't explain it.

I am laying on the bed at my sisters house having been to beach just now. I am lucky that both sisters told me to rest Before buffet style tea. I usually live alone so nice to eat food prepared by others. 2 days into Xmas trip and surviving ...just.

hope you all have good rests and recreations. 🌻

Christmas often difficult because often more is expected of us, even just socialising can be an effort . And no, often folk don't understand because we look so well!!! Hope you get to get enough rest and " me" time and the pains starts to subside.
