Have been down at 10mg for just over 3 weeks now. Fine at first but these last few days have had sore shoulders to varying degrees. Today is bad ๐Ÿ˜” Trying to figure out if this could be Pred related or should I blame it on being busy last few days, shampooing carpets and Christmas decorations up? Worst in morning then does ease off a bit. Should I expect this with tapering? Been very lucky and almost pain free since Pred kicked in so don't know how to react to this? Any advice very welcome.

Can't say for you, but if I were to shampoo carpets and put up Christmas decorations, I'd be finished! I can't even contemplate doing such things, even though I'd like to.

Try resting for a couple of days and see if your muscles recover. With PMR, our muscles are intolerant of over-use and take far longer to recover.

If you were fine for 3 weeks on 10mg, stay where you are until after Christmas. I stuck at 10mg for 2 months.

Maybe others with similar experience will have some ideas.

If this turns out to be a flare, you may need more pred, but the secret is to PACE and REST, which is hard at this time of year.

Take care.

Yes I'm convincing myself I have just been overdoing it. Trying to have lazy day today but dexascan appointment and wee granddaughter are not exactly helping ๐Ÿ˜‹ Thanks for setting reply, especially since it's kinda what I wanted to hear. Ie Probably not flare...... And chill

Ah! Carpets should not be shampooed when you are tapering๐Ÿ˜Š Tapering week is a week of cutting back on all activity to see if your body will tolerate it. I make this same mistake, even after 4 years!

Christmas is coming...forget the taper, enjoy being pain free at your old dose until after the holidays. No one notices the carpet but you๐Ÿ˜Š, trust me๐ŸŒธ

Hi,

Just read Rugger's reply to you, and would endorse all that he has said. I have had PMR for approaching three years now, and am on 6 mg pred daily.

If there is one thing I've learnt, then that is you need patience, as well as plenty of rest. The PMR will only go away when it is ready, and tapering when you are in a degree of pain most certainly does not help, as I have found out!

If 10 mg is still ok, then definitely wait till Christmas is well and truly gone, and, if in no pain, you could consider tapering to 9 or 9.5mg. Up to you; it depends how you feel. Listen to your body. AND, don't try to do too much.

Good luck

Paddy

Hi Charlie1boy

People do think I'm a male rugby player or fan, when really I'm a female rag-rug hobbyist! westridingruggers.co.uk

Got you now, having checked the website. Apologies for getting your gender wrong. I should know better than to assume - it makes an ass of u and me!

Best wishes

Paddy

PS: I used to live in the West Riding many years ago, but about as far from our capital town of Wakefield as could be.

Thank you. Wise words. I have been trying to pace and rest, it's just that mad time of year. Lesson learned I think ๐Ÿ˜•

I think you've pushed your luck with your strenuous activities. Perhaps you could boost your dose by 1 or 2 mgs and see if that settles it. If you go back to 10 mgs within a fortnight you should be ok. Try not to over do things. You need to be careful for about a year after the disease has burnt out even. I wouldn't taper anymore this side of Christmas.

Yup I think I did push my luck. Won't do that again soon. I did take your advice and with the aid of my little pill cutter I tried to get 1mg from a 5mg tablet and took that the other night. That and/or a lazier day helped. Not nearly as sore as I was. Horrible memories of how bad I was earlier this year shocked me into behaving. Thanks for the advice. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ask your GP to prescribe 1mg tablets and if you're on the coated, gastro-resistant tablets you can get 2.5mg too.

I think you have answered your own question haven't you? Thinking about what you have done makes me feel weak at the knees! See my post about my xmas pressy: a Roomba!

I would go back up a tad and possess my soul in patience until the New Year.

Why do people shampoo carpets BEFORE Christmas? They'll just have mince pies ground into them...

Iโ€™m in a similar position but on 30mg a day for a month and from Saturday I dropped to 25mg and am beginning to feel aches and pains but more in my legs. I havenโ€™t been out for a week except for 20 min walk with the dog and a bit of food shopping at the local shop but today went to town for xmas shopping for about 2 hours which I know was too much really. Im going to see how it is in the morning and then decide if to up it back to 30mg as advised by consultant. Canโ€™t believe I canโ€™t manage a bit of xmas shopping ๐Ÿ˜ซ

You take care and lots of rest

Honestly - you can't sit at home and not do a decent length walk and then go out and expect to walk around for a couple of hours without payback!

Next time try going down 2.5mg at a time. 25mg should be enough to manage PMR pain - but not if you try to drop that much at one go.

Thatโ€™s a good idea I will see how it goes in the morning and do the 2.5 decrease if I think the pains are back again. Makes sense to do smaller decrease over longer time.

Thanks and much appreciated advice ๐Ÿ™

I love the things I learn... and often right before I ask. Thanks. Although I am not about to shampoo carpets! Or put up my decorations. My daughter said a wise and simple thing to me.. when we come, mom, DELEGATE! Not an easy order for many of us but a good one. Happy Holidays to you all. Enjoy.

I believe I've learnt a lesson. Had been feeling quite well and forgot "things ain't what they used to be'" and my body has been reminding me ever since. Lazy days will help. Wish I could more happily delegate ho hum. Happy holidays to you too ๐Ÿ˜Š
