Can anyone come up with suggestions? Yesterday evening, still suffering from a prolonged cold, I coughed and congealed blood came into my handkerchief. I tried to rinse out my mouth but there were tiny bit of congealed blood caught in my teeth and on my tongue. It was only by cleaning my teeth, that I was able to get rid of it. I thought that it might be due to receding gums /loose teeth which have been well looked after, but are in their present state due to osteoporosis.
Early this morning, I woke up, coughed and I removed congealed blood from my mouth. Turning on the light, I saw that the rest of the blood was bright red. It was more difficult to clean my mouth with a toothbrush but my mouth now looks clean with no discernible bleeding from the mouth. Thinking that my stomach might be irritated by Omneprazole, I later took my predisolone with plain yoghurt.
Now I'm in a quandary, I'm inclined to wait and see if it happens again. I'd like to think it's an isolated incident. Has anyone had anything like this? Any suggestions gratefully received.

In the past I have had bloody post nasal drip during a bad cold and cough season. Probably popped A vessel or two coughing and blowing. A little blood goes a long way but If it continues its worth checking out.
Thanks Poopadoop. It's comforting to know that these symptoms are not uncommon. I've just spoken to a nurse on a health advisory phone line, and he advises a visit to my GP. I'm just arranging it now, so I'll let you know how I get on later in the day. Many thanks
I think it is more likely to be linked to your chest and the coughing. This sort of symptom should always be reported and investigated, even if you can see a logical explanation for it. I hope they do a chest x Ray just to be on the safe side. Let us know what happens. You are probably quite frightened. Let's hope is nothing but a burst blood vessel.
Thanks Sheffieldjane. I'm hoping that it will all peter out. I'm not someone who worries, but my husband gets really worried, so I'm worried that he's worried!
Thanks Mitziecat. I went to the GP and she sent me for a chest ex ray and blood test yesterday. She says that there's nothing wrong in the mouth but that it could be something in the trachea - possible irritation from the preds that I'm taking. I won't know the results until next week If further investigation is needed. She says that the hospital might put a camera down my throat to investigate - I don't suppose it will be as good as holiday snaps - trying not to think about it too much!
Mm .. since having this PMG, I`ve also noticed on the odd occasion when I clean my teeth, blood when I spit out into the wash basin. Normally, this never happens and I use a strong mouthwash as a routine. It`s an isolated show which I feel is related to the disease.
