Further to my previous posts re unitary problem. I have just returned from an appointment with a different Doctor at our Medical Practice due to my condition still not having been cleared up. I have, as posted before, since July had 2 X 4 day treatments of antibiotics, 1 X 7 day with a different antibiotic, a thrush treatment and a further 7 day antibiotic which I take religiously the full course and which seem to work whilst taking them. A few days after finishing them there it is again the same problem. Today I took with me a urine sample which clearly shows by its cloudy condition that the problem is still there. Now have another 7 day antibiotic and Doctor sending off the sample for further tests and says if this doesn't remedy the problem I will get a appointment with the Urology Specialist. I am so fed up with the situation. I have taken the advice of you wonderful people on this Forum to no avail. Any more suggestions. Oh and I have been tapering my Preds by 1mg per month and down to 6mg now. Could this have any bearing on my problem? Many thanks. Dorothy

Urinary problem (ongoing)
How frustrating and upsetting for you! Has the doc been prescribing these antibiotics according the the sensitivity reports each time on the samples sent off? Or have these been prescribed blind? Previous posts of yours said E. coli was in early samples.
It is good that a Urologist is being mentioned and I would push for it. It may be you need a longer term course rather than lots of short courses and some investigations to see if there are any functional issues.
Thank you SnazzyD you are right E.Coli was and obviously still is present but the Doc has sent this sample for investigation/analysis and will probably get a reply on Monday. In the meantime have started on this antibiotic (Nitrofurantoin, same as before) which is to be taken twice a day this time. On each previous time it appears to be working and then 3/4 days later it's there again. Can only hope that this time the problem is solved as I am getting more than a bit concerned as well as frustrated to say the least.
Thank you. D
Has the doc said the report has said that the E. coli is sensitive to the Nitrofurantoin?
You say the dose is twice a day this time. What was it before? Here is some info on normal different doses and frequency for either treatment or prevention and length of courses depending on whether it is a slow release or ordinary immediate release tablet.

Thank you again. Doctor doesn't actually say much but what he did say was that the last time they stated that this was the correct antibiotic for the condition. This AB is a 100mg Prolonged Release Capsule (Macrobid) The last time it was 3 times per day after food. I suppose I may hear on Monday if it is still the appropriate one once the sample has been analized. The link is very useful, thank you.D
Really not sure i would taper while I had a query UTI. Surely they have done a urine culture before this? But kudos to your doc for getting it that this belongs to a urology specialist.
Thank you for your response PMRPO perhaps I will go up again to 7mg until I am fully sorted. This has been going on too long now so I shall look forward to a appt with the urology surgeon. Other than this persistently ongoing problem I am fine. Good night D
