Stomach problems

Hi dear forum,

still alive and following, but not much to tell till now. I'm on 30 mg Prednisone now, Methotrexate once weekly and take Alendronate once a week as well.

Lately, whenever I eat something, no matter what, I get pain in my stomach. It lasts longer. Tea doesn't help, oats cooked in water doesn't help and it's bothering me.

Any idea what I can do about it? Thanks again to all, Monika

I have porridge with milk for breakfast and then swallow my prednisone with a yakult. I am also on Nexium 40mg twice a day. Hope this helps.

I had that with Methotrexate..at least l think it was that.As soon as I ate something I would get abdominal pain. I don't think there is anything you can do about it, short of stopping the mtx. I was told by my rheumi that it goes away after a while when your body gets used to the stuff.

Are you taking Omeprazole to protect your stomach? I think yogurt or milk is supposed to help protect the stomach.

Yoghurt definitely helps me😃 I get terrible stomach pains if I take the pred and hydroxychloriquine without it.

I take Lanzaprazole to protect my stomach - it might be worth having a word with your GP about your stomach pains and see if he'll prescribe something for you.

You don't mention taking a PPI - omeprazole for example. Is is definitely your stomach? Not heartburn?

Methotrexatre can cause stomach problems and so can alendronic acid. It is easy to see if it is the AA, don't take it for a week or two - your bones are not going to crumble whatever your doctor tries to tell you! The same applies for the methotrexate but you would have to discuss that with your doctor.

Thank you all!!!!!!!

I take Alendronic Acid once a week and I have Raniditin which I take when needed. I had one heartburn episode that brought me to the ER because I thought it's a heart attack. But that's a while ago now. Well, I think when I see my Rheumy in two weeks we have to talk about it. Till then I have to deal with it. The good thing is I lost some weight because of it. Not much, but it makes me feel better. Thank's again to all of you and get better, Monika
