The Mediterranean Diet

Hello: I'm new to this forum and I've had PMR for almost 3 years. I posted this information to a post string in which members had started a conversation about the health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet. PMR Pro suggested that I start a new Post on this topic, so here goes:

I work with a group of physicians in Colorado, who (mostly) agree that the Mediterranean Diet, to date, has the most medical evidence supporting its health benefits for the general population. I produced a "fun" video with some of these physicians on the Mediterranean diet which you can find here:

youtube.com/watch?v=NHQZsJS...

From my personal experience with PMR, I seem to do better with a modified Mediterranean Diet...lowering my carb consumption, even the whole grains, and upping the proteins. My struggle is finding the time to make sure I get all the vegetables and leafy greens recommended.

I noticed that there are many more videos out there now on the Mediterranean diet, so I'm off to watch them. Best to you!

Welcome - not many start as a film star when they arrive here ;-) At least, I'm assuming that is you? Loved it!

Glad you liked it:) Actually, I am not a clinician myself, and I try to feature the clinicians as much as possible in the videos...mixing local actors with local physicians and nurses. So, I don't appear in the video at all. But, I did co-write and produce it along with a local videographer here in Colorado. It was a lot of fun to do and hopefully will be helpful to folks.

Looking forward to watching this - but can only access black screen and nothing else. Am I doing / not doing something I should?

My apologies as I am not a tech specialist. If you are accessing from an "intranet", perhaps at work, some won't allow users to access any public video content. But I'll try one more link in case this works better youtube.com/watch?v=NHQZsJS...

Oh dear. I'm not sure. You could go to Youtube and search for BVCN Mediterranean Diet or perhaps it will load up for you on the Vimeo platform which is here: vimeo.com/157618398

I got the black screen the first time - but clicked on the bit that said to watch it on YouTube and it linked directly.

Excellent......especially the recommendation for dark chocolate.......Mmm!!

Dark chocolate is good for you. No excuses or apologies needed! For example, this from authoritynutrition

Dark chocolate is loaded with nutrients that can positively affect your health.

Made from the seed of the cocoa tree, it is one of the best sources of antioxidants on the planet.

Studies show that dark chocolate (not the sugary crap) can improve health and lower the risk of heart disease.

And just in case we need another excuse to indulge, the phytonutrients (flavonoids) contained in dark chocolate (70%) are ANTI-INFLAMMATORY!!

Sometimes I am able to find locally crafted dark chocolate bars with chunks of ginger in them. :)

But the ginger man is taking the summer off. :(

It always makes me laugh - I live in Italy, no-one, but no-one, eats the way the Mediterranean diet is presented! They still live a long time though!

Up here in the mountains they eat vast quantities of fat (butter and lard), processed meats (Speck, smoked and dried ham) and cheese. No olive oil and relatively few veg. They are still climbing the mountains and riding bikes in their 80s.

I think you're referring to the C Food diet PMRpro?

Something like that. And this morning's news article that "even 2 small glasses of wine gives you cancer" - our local gentlemen are to be found sitting in the sun with their first glass of wine about 10.30. Further south it is before 9am while reading the paper ...

I've been on the C-food diet for years. Maybe that's how I ended up here? Now on the afore-mentioned modified Mediterranean diet. Trying new foods and new ideas, and certainly on a more sustainable path.

Red wine is also said to be anti inflammatory, so maybe red wine and and dark chocolate for lunch?

So, CT, that's why I seem to thrive on red wine (the dry variety)?! But only in the evenings, and with dinner... ;-)

Thanks so much for this! I am doing the blood sugar diet which is a low calorie version of the Mediterranean diet. I haven't managed 800 calories but am staying below 1300 calories. So this will give me some inspiration. 😀

Very cute! I'm def following this without realizing it. However, I think I eat chicken more than moderately and red meat about 2-3 times per month. I crave it. Even the sugar in yogurt makes me sick! I physically feel pain when I don't eat right. Maybe it's in my head!
