For many years I suffered bad migraines but managed to crawl through each one reasonably well. As I got older they eased right back (combination of thyroxine dose finally being correct and HRT (hooray!) ). Of course only yesterday I was boasting that I'd not had a serious migraine for several years then BAM! last night...oh my days......
The absolute worst migraine I've ever known. Vomiting and Serious head pain across my whole forehead but it kept moving all over my head and face and back of my neck. At 4:30 this morning I was pretty close to calling the paramedics. ( I live alone and got quite scared by this time...)
This morning it's eased back to just a rather annoying migraine but I still feel sick, still feel like I've been punched in the head - hard - several times and still quite unsteady on my feet. Does anyone know if this is yet another secret surprise of PMR?
I think I know what triggered it - a late night, a long drive and being utterly exhausted..... So I'm taking the mantra "Be kind to your body" MUCH more seriously!
Thanks all,
Blessings

I had one recently. Hadn't had a bad one in a long time. I typically get a visual aura and even though it responded to medication, I had myself scared. A phone call to my rheumatologist reassured me. He had me describe my headache and visual symptoms, asked about other GCA symptoms which I didn't have, and told me if I got a second migraine within the next few days he wanted me to get checked immediately. It was also comforting that he was on the phone with me quite quickly. I've had an appointment with him since and he went over it all again and felt my temporal arteries, said they were strong - not sure what that means but thought that was kind of funny.
Anyway, I guess I'm thinking that if your migraine was normal for you, it's probably ok but you should call in to your doctor. If the migraine wasn't typical, maybe you should see someone today.
Thank you TooSore. It was by far the worst migraine I've ever had (and there have been a few!) and of course all I kept thinking of was GCA or something equally as scary. I'm going to take your idea and call my docs tomorrow just for a quick chat with my GP who has quite a few PMR patients on his book. Thanks again x
