Hi all - I live in the UK and have just been diagnosed with PMR. I started on 20mg of Predislone this morning and I have itchy skin espescially on my face. My throat is also a bit sire.

Is this pretty standard?

Thanks

I do not think the pred will have caused those symptoms so quickly. You may be getting a cold if you have a sore throat. There are a lot around. If you have PMR then you should have magical symptoms getting rid of the awful pain fairly soon.

Pain definitely subsiding - came back a bit in early hours of the morning. I was also a bit wired and couldn't sleep last night. Thanks

Join the club ! I started on 15mg of Pred 2 years ago and straight away had itchy skin which continued on and off and after 18mths started to get acne on my face, most embarrassing at the age of 70. Apparently this is a side affect to the Pred but a rare one so hopefully you won't get the full blown acne. Good Luck.

I too had itchy skin and at 67 also acne on my face, which is subsiding a bit now, the joys of PMR

I am now on 8mg, dead slow method of reducing. Started on 30mg, December 2015. I find that I develop another side effect which does go, but slowly. I have had to learn great patience, and I am living a quieter life than I was

Wow! Yes hope I don't get acne. Are you still on Pred?

~When I first started taking my meds PMR (Jan 2015) my skin noticeably changed irritation wise. As time has gone on my skin has also thinned a little - to be expected whilst on steroids for any length of time.

Others will tell you to apply a good barrier cream which will help. Morning and night I apply a variety of moisturizing creams alternating with a Vitamin E based oil. My thirsty skin soaks it all up and never leaves any residue. I have been known to be prone to eczema so prevention is better than cure in my books.

I never wash with soap (other than armpits) and opt for mild surfactant shower gel (without chemical additives) to cleanse whilst still retaining skin's sensitive structure.

Hope this helps & good luck~ :)

I had a severe rash spread over body, arms, palms and soles of feet, which erupted on New Year's Eve! Four days before I could see GP, who prescribed a strong course of antihistamines (stronger than over the counter). They worked a treat. Not sure which of my drug cocktail caused it but it hasn't returned yet and antihistamines finished about 10 days ago. Can't say it was Prednisolone and some of the cocktail has changed now. Fingers firmly crossed!
