Having a really bad flare up, my hips hurt so much and shooting pains down my legs. My shoulders hurt too and I feel exhausted by the pain was on 5mcg after three months much too soon to low. Now back on 12.5mcg and still in pain. Seeing my consultant next Tuesday. Has anyone had an MRI scan on their hips? He wants me to have one. Thanks.

Hi,

No, not hips, but shoulders! Have GCA, but it also confirmed OA in left shoulder.

Yes, lower back and hips, found to have DDD (Degenerative Disc Disease) in lower back, and osteoarthritis in left hip. DDD is very common in those of us who are on the 'mature' side of life, but is only really acted upon if the degeneration rapidly increases. Mine hasn't in 2 years, but I had a hip replacement last year.

So sorry about your pain!

I have UCTD (SLE like) and had hip pain in both hips ans thighs, probably bursitis, for almost a year.

I took celebrex, that is an anti-inflammatory painkiller and it went away after 2 months. I stopped with the painkiller.

I don't take prednisone. I only take Plaquenil which is an anti malarial.

Because I have muscle issues in my body I recently had a MRI of my upper legs with myositis protocol. It didn't show anything wrong. If the MRI would have been taken when my hips/thighs were inflamed for almost a year I'm sure it would have shown inflammation.

Thus I advice you to get the MRI asap.

Hi , yes I had MRI on hips and the conclusion was slight osteoarthritis in both hips and lower back , but the doctor that looked at the scan said blood tests required as he saw the inflammation. That's was when I was diagnosed with PMR ESR etc over 50 Pred got them down to normal in a week , I still have pain in my hood but manageable , when I reduce it flares for about 2 weeks then easier off . Currently on 6.5mg . It's not fun at all but soldiering on , good luck and keep smiling 😀😀

It does help sharing Gaz, and thanks to everyone who does, especially for newbies at this like myself, needing to learn all about this horrid disease.

Am hoping my Rhumatologist will eventually agree to an MRI for me on my lower back / thighs / and def hips as the pain has been intolerable. He is presently more concerned the diagnosis of GCA be sorted first apparently which, after today and the eye scans I had from eye hospital, pretty much confirmed inflamed blood vessels due to probability of GCA - followed by a biopsy in next few days, we can then address these other issues.
