Not a happy chappy. Got PMR for a second time.

First time lasted 2.5 years and affected arms and shoulders. "Clean" for three years now back and affecting my legs, hips and hands. The first time I started on 30mg steroids working my self down to 1mg over 2.5years. This time I started in February on 15mg but after a month I have increased it to 20mg to cope with the pain in my hands. Tomorrow 1st June I will reduce to 18.5 and monitor results. I have found oranges bad news. Sad as I love fresh oranges. I have also noticed potatoes seem to have affected me but very slight. Steroids have affected my eyes negatively but done wonders for putting a spring in my step and lobido.

Bad luck - I wonder which is worse: being free from PMR for a few years and it come back or never getting rid of it like me?

Interesting that about oranges and spuds. The only link I can think of is that both are significant suppliers of vit C in the UK diet...

Bob, I answered your post on the other thread saying what a bummer to succumb to PMR for the second time. Hopefully, it might be reassuring to hear that I'm in touch with a few other people who have had second bouts and who have again reached remission....a few years ago now.

Interesting that you have found particular foods that you know have an adverse effect on you. Oranges in particular are acidic, so perhaps your body might be crying out for more alkaline foods. I sought out and stuck to as many known anit-inflammatory foods I could find whilst going through PMR and GCA - no cure obviously (sadly nothing is at present) but I found that if I veered off such foods for any length of time, the stiffness would worsen.

I do hope the reduction from tomorrow goes well.

I'm afraid some people do get PMR more than once. Once you have an autoimmune disorder the propensity for it to spring to life again remains. PMR is unusual in going into remission for the majority of people - most a/i disorders don't.
