Hi,

Nearer my area, but sorry no! Only saw Rheumy once on my journey, but that was 4 years ago, probably retired by now! Not that I rated him much! although others thought him ok. Clash of personalities I think - moi?

Not sure there's a lot in SW, you'll probably have to go to Bristol - unfortunately.

Isabella, I know someone in the area who will, I'm sure, be able to recommend someone. I will try making contact and get back to you when I have some information.

Isabella, that made me chuckle - certainly no apology needed. PMRpro is the 'pro' after all.....even if she is younger than me!!!!

Suetum as you see there is one that Tina-Shelly and Griggser both recommend docs but in Cornwall, I'm also hopeing PMRpro will be able to. Good luck, let me know if you find anyone.

Isabella, I am awaiting a reply from someone in the Plymouth area - will get back to you when received.

Sue, in enquiring about a recommended rheumy in the South West of England for Isabella, I have been given the name of someone in the Weston-Super-Mare area with a special interest in PMR. This is, no doubt a step too far for Isabella but sounds reasonably close to you. I will drop you a personal message with more details.

I see one in Poole who appears to be good

Dr Martin Davis practise in Truro, not sure if he has surgeries elsewhere. I have found him very understanding and supportive.

Hello Isabella, I am under a Dr Hutchinson at Triliske hospital, (Royal Cornwall hospital). He is very good and when he diagnosed me he had me following the Bristol PMR plan but when I got on to 10mgs, followed that for 6 months as opposed to the suggested 1 year. I had a flare attempting to reduce from 9-8mgs and when I requested I only taper by .5mgs each reduction he agreed. I also requested that I come off Alendronic acid, which had been prescribed by my local GP surgery, and he agreed, and added that he doesn't prescribe AA for the under 75's. Could you ask your GP to refer you to him or could you contact his secretary direct? All the best, tina

Tina-Shelley, if I can't find one closer I will certainly try him, thankyou!!

Hi Isabella, Also from the TRURO area & my diagnosis was confirmed & treated by Prof Woolf for a year 4 years ago. He was very well informed but I believe has retired apart from lecturing & research. It's good to know from Tina Shelley that Dr Hutchinson is so good at Treliske though my GP is very supportive & I haven't seen a consultant for 3 years. Sometimes I think it would be a good idea as have had problems with AA & omeprozale but have learnt SO much from this site. ie slow reduction, Currently on 5mg 2 days 4mg 5 days & hanging in there!

Good luck x

Hello Isabella, just read your post.

If it helps:

My NHS rheumatologist is Dr Samy Zakout (pronounced 'Sammy Zakoot' - he is of Palestinian origin) in Weston super Mare. He seems to be very-well respected and is a specialist in PMR. As important, perhaps, I found that he is sympathetic and has a genuine interest in his patients.

Good luck!

Lucky you, Mark - he's the one I've just recommended in a personal message to Suetum following her post above! Bit too far for Isabella, I fear.
