Assuming you mean 79 mg/L , yes it is high. 99% of the normal population have levels below about 10mg/L.
It is a sign there is considerably inflammation present in your body and, yes, that could also be the cause of your sweats.
I'm also assuming you are not yet being treated for anything?
Rusty, an ideal CRP reading is between 0 and 4.9, so your reading at 79 points to there being uncontrolled inflammation in your body leading to symptoms such as the sweats you are experiencing. If the inflammation is from uncontrolled PMR, then you need to increase your steroid dose back up to see if the sweats improve along with any other symptoms you may have. Having only one kidney myself with reducing function, I can so understand you are concerned about taking medication due to having a transplanted kidney, but in the case of PMR you need the right dose to control the inflammation and prevent it causing further problems. Steroids should not cause any harm to your transplanted kidney - they are in fact prescribed for many patients with kidney problems. It is far more likely for untreated inflammation itself to lead to problems.
During a recent flare my CRP was 101! My (lovely) rheumy did concede that this was 'a little on the high side'! Actually down to 79 now
I had a CRP of 78 last month. It transpired that I had a water infection. This month it is back to 4, even though the infection hasn't fully gone and I am on antibiotics. See what it is this month. It may have gone down. Good luck.
Mine started at 250 and rapidly decreased after I began with pred. However, I think the lowest it has been was 11 and is now hovering around 22. Your raised CPR and sweats could also be a sign of an infection not associated with your PMR. I'm pretty convinced that mine is related to a chronic sinus infection that hasn't yielded to antibiotics - yet. Have you had a cold or a sore throat recently?
I don't know whether there is meant to be a correlation between the higher the crp reading and the amount of pain but my reading was only 25 at diagnosis and I was in agony with pmr even though I generally have a high pain threshold...
Looking at the last post re CRP being low and could there be a correlation between the CRP level and the amount of pain , I really think not. This is what one of the GPs in my practice said that because my CRP and ESR levels were low then he either felt that I didn't have PMR at all or that I had it very mildly!
I started with a very low ESR of 18 and CRP of 1., Nov 2014. Since then my ESR has steadily gone down . At my first flare it was only 8 and CRP below 1 and I was in a lot of pain. I have since had another flare which has necessitated me going up from 10.5 mg pred to now 20mg. I have had temple pain and very bad headaches( like hot rods being pushed into the head) , slight numbness of the tongue but no visual disturbances. I have now asked my GP to refer me to a rheumy and this week have had my bloods done. My ESR is 3, my CRP again below 1. After 2/3 months of feeling absolutely awful and only 2 dys of being on 20mg and feeling at last symptoms beginning to subside I was a bit surprised at such low readings. Although I have over the last two months been slowly increasing and increasing from 10.5mg to 17mg then 20 mg two days ago as the steady increase did not seem to be controlling the symptoms. I take comfort in PMRpro comment that 20% of folk present with no raised blood markers .Although I'm glad mine have gone down and my blood pressure is excellent and the best its ever been 118/84( probably due to to changed low carb/ anti inflammation diet) I feel somehow I am going to find it hard to explain to my GP and a rheumy just how I feel and perhaps to be taken seriously.
