I am 3 days into reducing by 1mg from 15 to 14,have today been getting a little more pain but not too much. Thrush in the mouth again! But that aside my question is do I persevere with this reduction for the month or do I need to go back up to 15.
many thanks

How are you reducing? Did you stop taking 15mg and switch to taking 14mg? How long have you been at 15mg? How were your symptoms or blood tests at diagnosis and before the reduction?
Have been at 15mg since 12th January.having reduced to that from 40mg. Saw consultant on 5th February who suggested a decrease of 1mg per month. Already had mouth thrush when I saw him .83 at diagnose in August 2015 down to various numbers 0-23 over the time until February when it was 19.
Same questions really, plus as you are only 3 days in could be steroid withdrawal. Thrush could be coincidence. Stick with it for a few days, if you feel better then probably withdrawal. Longer than that might suggest flare, so go back 15mg. Even at that dose, slow reduction is better than overnight.
Yes I had a couple of bouts early days. You can get a mouthwash from chemist. Or if that's not strong enough, then GP should prescribe something stronger. As if the PMR wasn't enough!
Really can't add anything to what DL has said - if it gets worse then it is more likely to be a flare, if it gets better that's fine. Next time maybe try 1/2mg or the "Dead slow and nearly stop approach".
Deeroy2015, Dorset Lady is right about the treatment for thrush. I had it when I was on high doses. Doc gave me Nystatin liquid. Within 3 days all gone! Don't suffer.
I have had thrush only once in my mouth, but quite bad. I got lozengers from my Dr. which cleared it up, but I also cut out everything sweet. Cutting out anything sweet and having Yoghurt made a huge difference. Also cut down bread made with yeast. Thankfully the thrush has all cleared up.
I'm down to 3 to 4 mg of pred. and starting to lose some of the weight that I have put on. I still have some aches that's when I go back to 4 mg for a few days. I find Panadol really good now too.
What about going to 14 1/2 to see if that helps.
I nearly only eat bread made with no yeast. This is the one I make.
If you google " My Life-Changing Loaf of Bread." You will see the recipe. -- Lovely toasted.
I eat mainly Fish and Chicken, veggies and fruit only a little red meat as I find that the red meat brings on the aches and pains.
I got PMR in May 2014 after a very stressful time and having just had the Flu injection, which I won't be having again. There was an article in our local paper about a study in America that said the flu injection does cause inflamation in older people.
I started on 20mgs. I have had a great Dr. who is happy for me to manage my reduction of Pred. I mentioned this forum when I asked for 1/2 tablets. He was all for it. I can work in my garden all day and pmr doesn't seem to be effected now.
I hope to be completely free by May this year. I'm 68 and retired.
