Hi all just wondering if any of you have problems with ultra sensitive teeth and gums caused I think by pred . Dentist says teeth are ok and never heard of sensitivity from pred 😢 . Tapered to 5 mg but pretty achy and wondering could sore teeth be GCA . No other symptoms like headache or such .

I had very sensitive teeth when I started taking pred and so started using Sensodyne toothpaste, It is a lot better now though. I had never had sensitive teeth before so it was a bit of a shock.

I do have GCA and have sensitive teeth after I started taking the 60mg pred. in January of this year. I also use the Sensodyne toothpaste. For me, using a straw and taking smaller sips helps. I am noticing that it is not quite as bad now that I am on 15mg.

I was but asked for dexa scan and that was ok . No change in bone density in 10 years ! Decided against a a too many negatives about it . Take calcium and vit D and plenty dairy

My sensitive teeth were there before pred - it happened because of PMR I suspect. But it was worse with pred - I couldn't eat very hot or very cold food. I couldn't even use cold water when cleaning my teeth! It has all faded away as I have reduced my pred dose and that is really the only thing that has changed.

Judging by the number of people on the forums who have the same problem I think your dentist is likely to be wrong - just because he's not come across it doesn't mean it doesn't happen! After all, and this is possibly a sweeping generalisation, but we are really the first generation who mostly still have our own teeth at well over 60 years of age. Dentures of whatever sort don't develop sensitivity to anything!

I always did have sensitive teeth, long before PMR and pred. However, after 4 years, I can now - if I'm being naughty - bite into a choc-ice without discomfort. I always use one of the Sensodyne range.

I am now on 12mg and have had sensitive teeth for most of the time since being diagnosed with GCA and PRM nearly 3 years ago never had it before my illness so in my mind it has to be down to the medication at the moment on 12 mg it is quite bad use sensitive toothpaste my dentist prescribed but feel ok in myself so can tolerate the teeth syndrome just part of this peculiar illness!!

I have sensitive teeth that appeared to be worse once started on pred. I have found that by far the best toothpaste is Sensodyne repair and protect, which I believe is their latest addition to the sensodyne range

I like the Pronamel - mainly because of the taste! Do you remember when Sensodyne only came in one vile flavour!

Hi just to add to the rest of the replies I never had sensitive teeth not even on 15mgs for PMR. However when I was put up to 40mgs for GCA in June I slowly developed sensitive teeth until this week I was moaning about them and wondering if it was the pred. I was about to ask everyone there opinion when you did it for me! Thanks and sorry your suffering. Have a great day Lv cc 🌻🌻

I would like to comment and say that a month or so down the PMR track and steroid intake (not high) my teeth had become sensitive plus my gums started to recede slightly at the front where I have 2 teeth capped.

After consulting my dentist, we decided that I would be more aware and gentle with the electric toothbrush as opposed to me always being in a rush. My honesty here.

I have incorporated using organic virgin olive oil to help keep the gums moisturized and is called "oil pulling", a procedure used in Auyvedic therapy (haven't spelt this correctly).

I do oil apply to my electric toothbrush morning and evening - has certainly helped relieve dryness in my mouth.

Oooh - that sounds better than toothpaste. Though the oil pulling technique does seem a serious waste of high grade olive oil that I can use for my salad and all other cooking! You'd not want to be short of money to try that would you? I live at the source of the stuff - 2 tablespoons a day to spit out would still be pricey!!

That's funny because my daughter was telling me about doing the same with coconut oil . I only use a little and although it's not helping sensitivity my teeth look whiter ! So now I cook , moisturise my skin and gargle with coconut oil . Happy days !

Excellent, bumpermac, cocoanut oil is so good for us in many ways and hadn't thought of using it on my toothbrush though.

Oh and yes I use two tablespoons when I lightly fry my steamed veggies - yummy and crispy. Not too much though as it goes straight to the hips!!

Great to hear from you - kind regards.
