Dupuytren's contracture anyone? I have just been diagnosed with this and wondered if it was related to PMR in any way.

I noticed a hard lump on my palm, in line with my ring finger, off I went to the computer on consult Dr. Google and self diagnosed Dupuytren's Contracture. My GP confirmed my diagnosis. I have a growth on the tendon of my ring finger which will eventually cause the tendon to contract causing the finger to curl inwards towards the palm of my hand. If it gets worse which it might not do for a long time, I might need surgery.

I know one lady who had this, in fact she is on this forum, she must not have noticed this. I don't think it is related to PMR and it certainly occurs in people without PMR.

I believe there is physio that can help but I really don't know much about it.

I too was diagnosed with this in both hands by my rheumatology doctor, I have had Pmr for. 4 years but he did not say it was connected, just when it gets really bad it will have to operated on! Just something else to look forward to eh!

I also have this, I have two lumps one connected to my little finger the other to the ring finger on the same hand. I've had them for about four years now but not sure it's connected to PMR . When it gets too bad they'll operate. What fun!

Hi Chynnamoss, have read your post and I have GCA and I also have a lump on the third joint part of my little finger. In your post, you said "when it gets too bad they'll operate". What is the "too bad" ? Mine is mostly painless. Do they get bigger ? Thanks. best, Whittlesey

Hi Loco99 and everyone, I also have a lump on my left pinky finger and that finger curves outward. Have not talked to my doctor about this. I will. I also have scrolled down and see that this may be something common to this. For the most part it is not painful. I remember my grandmother had rheumatoid artheritis and several of her fingers were like this.

Hi Loco99, replying again. I just reread your post. So this cause the tendon to contract and this is why the finger bends outwards? Understood. I have something similar in my left thigh. I am waiting for hip surgery. It is similar, possibly not the same. The inguineal tendon around the stomach has wrongly connected to the femoral nerve in my thigh (meralgia paresthetica). Tendons have grown around both. I don't have full use of the quadriceps muscle and it often goes into spasm. I am supposed to stretch and do stretching exercises (which I do to avoid contracture). Thank you for posting on this. all my best, Whittlesey

Hi Whittlesey by too bad they mean when the fingers involved start to curl and stiffen. This can apparently take years and the two lumps I have are on the palm of my hand. The only thing noticeable is That I cannot fully straighten my hand but its not a problem yet. None of this is painful so that's a plus.

understood. for function. I hope they get it early, for you, so no problems. The rheumatologist said my hands have a reddish tint (which I hadn't noticed - I type a lot, but hadn't noticed this). She diagnosed this as Reynaud's syndrome, my feet also. She said to use a good penetrating hand lotion, which I do. have noticed no changes, maybe less 'pink'. ? many side effects of the inflammation ? Thanks, Loco99. best, Whittlesey

Hi Loco99 just searched on here for Dupuytren's Contracture and found no new recent posts. I see you were wondering 7 years ago whether you may need surgery. I had a fasciectomy for Dupuytren's 19 days ago and seeing my Consultant tonight. It looked a bit horrific post op but healing well now and good movement in previously locked fingers. How is your hand now?
