My PMR story to date . . .

I was diagnosed with PMR in Feb 2012 after weeks of stubbornly believing that it was normal ageing process to be so limited with mobility. But 30mgs of Pred convinced me otherwise and I was on the road to recovery. Mmmm! Too quickly I got down to 9mgs and in July of the same year the jaw pain and tender scalp sent me back up to 30mgs. It sorted it out and so this time I have been more sensible. Listened and learned what my body has told me and I recently got down to 6mgs.

But who was I trying to fool? Maybe the fact that my husband had a stroke at the end of December and in comparison to his serious mobility problems a few aches and pains were minor.

So I have gone back up to 8mgs this week. A little better tho some days my thighs are very stiff and tight and the old backache is there. But then I am working hard and doing the gardening and jobs my husband would normally do so I expect to have some normal reaction.

On a positive note I have shed my extra stone and look really well. The steroids have caused glaucoma but I have been zapped with laser treatment and the drops keep the pressure down.

I would dearly love to see the end of this disorder. I know that I must keep myself fit in order to look after my husband who is making very slow but some progress. But I tell myself that at least I can walk the dog and get out every day. So slowly does it.

I read the blogs on this site regularly and wish each one of you going through this delightful disorder all the very best. Keep smiling x

I so empathise with all that you've said. I too succumbed to glaucoma from the steroids and no sooner had I come through the battle of 6.5 years with PMR and GCA, when my hubby was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and 6 months later our super fit and healthy son had a stroke. Thank God that bodily he is fine but his eyesight has been affected so he is unable to drive. It sounds as though you are doing everything to help yourself Wendy so well done and well done on the weight loss as well. I do hope your hubby continues to make good progress. Take care of yourself. We must keep counting our blessings.

Thank you for your lovely positive words. If possible it is vital to keep everything in perspective. I have just got back from walking the dog and my legs have behaved quite well! So it's a good day x
