Vibrating sensation in my vagina

CookieLover101 profile image

I have been suffering with pelvic pain for over a year now, and no one will help me. Two weeks ago, I started to experience an uncomfortable vibrating sensation in my vagina. It would last a few minutes and then go. But today, it started again and has now been going on for two hours and has not stopped.

Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know what could be causing this? What can I do to stop it?

How do I get help? It took me 6 months to convince my GP to refer me to gynaecology. And, now I have been on a waitlist to get an appointment for gynaecology for almost 7 months now, and I was told the waitlist is a year long. I have complained multiple times and I have had my GP send a letter to the gynaecology department requesting the appointment to be expedited. But, they have refused. Pain management discharged me, saying they couldn't help me until I had seen gynaecology. They said if gynaecology couldn't help me I could be re-referred to pain management. But, I waited 4 months to get an appointment with pain management last time I was referred, and it took 3 months to convince my GPs to refer me in the first place.

Hi there

I have been having exact same vibration thing, I have a long history of several prolapses first bladder then enlarged uterus, a rectocele and Cystocele. I have had a TVT and and hysterectomy in 2017, I suffer with frequency & urgency for years and still continue to suffer . Getting referred takes ages and when you finally get seen the problem has dissipated , Whilst waiting to be seen by the womens hospital I developed this vibrating in vagina and thought it was more of a strong irritation rather than pain but Nevertheless very worrying, it would come and go but lasted for over 3 weeks at one point. When I eventually got seen by gynaecologist the problem had subsided somewhat, the process from GP to being seen was 16 months. They recently did bladder scan and pelvic scan to make sure there was no mesh erosion from TVT and I am now awaiting results. Meanwhile I was prescribed amitriptyline for nerve pain and some medication for the over active bladder, which I’m currently not taking, I’m worried about side effects . No real explanation for the extreme vibrating within the vagina other than nerve pain from weak pelvic floor. I’m now waiting for follow up with nurse led clinic at women’s clinic, still with no real answer's but two prescriptions! Almost 2 years on now, just to say the vibration thing has settled once again, I will always have urgency and frequency i was left with this after a bladder sling operation in 2011 , I just live with it I’m not sure I want life long medication with more side effects, oh they have also offered Botox injections into the bladder that scares the crap out of me. I know I probably haven't helped much, as I haven’t got an answer but at least you know your not on your own with this experience . I hope you get sorted soon

Hi CookieLover101Have you ever been swabbed and tested for infection or had your urine tested?

I suffer with UTI's and sometimes I get the same vibration feeling in my vagina. It's very easy for bacteria to spread from one area to another in women, especially if you're sexually active.

My GP is hard work too so in the past I've used private testing and gave the results to my GP and they did treat me.

I have used Focus Labs to do both a vaginal swab and send off my urine. I have also used Superdrug online doctor where I swabbed for STI's, I was positive for Mycoplasma which I was treated for by the sexual health clinic, this was confidential and free, your GP does not need to know. My Focus test showed Strep B in both my vagina and urine, I was treated by my GP for this.

So it's worth spending between £100-£200 on these tests rather than begging your GP and wasting more time.

Hope you get to the bottom of it 😊

I have had my urine tested, but only for certain bacteria. I have asked for a urine culture to be done and to be tested for a fungal UTI, but apparently they don't do either in the NHS. I have had a vaginal swab, and it came back positive for Strep B. I was told it is normal for women to have some Strep B in their vagina, but as my numbers were somewhat high the GP gave me a short course of antibiotics. I took them, but they didn't seem to make a difference.

I had that as a male. It was vascular issue. Like a damn cell phone going off in my private area. I had May Thurner Syndrome which caused vein problems. And compressed veins. The vibrating can be from vascular possibly. It can either be vibrating at compression point or broken vein valves. It's very common for women to have these issues. I was rare as a male. But vascular issue for women are very common. Look up pelvic congestion syndrome, may thurner syndrome, venous insufficiency, nutcracker syndrome. See if any of it rings a bell for you and what your experiencing. These issues start in pelvic area first then spread. Pain meds don't do much. And ssooooo many women go through unnecessary surgeries at advice of obgyn, gynecologist trying to treat problems that aren't there. These issues can be very painful, and cause all sorts of symptoms misguided your diagnosis for years. Mine all started as pelvic pain, and that damn vibration and spread. So I'm not saying it to scare you. But take your time, look through these diagnosis and see if anything clicks. I wish someone had informed me 5 years ago when it started. I never suspected vascular. Hoping you find an answer!!

It sounds like spasms but it could indeed be a vascular issue. Magnesium bisglycinate can help a bit as can passionflower tablets. They both relax muscles and the passion flower is a natural. It helps with anxiety, pain, and sleep. Good luck. Keep us posted.

What dose of magnesium bisglycinate should you take?

I’m a female so no more than 350 mg a day. I took it three times a day. I’ve had the surgeries I needed ( and waited way way too long for ) so I no longer need it. I did use it for 12 years.
