Pelvic congestion

I have had pelvic pain for 3 years. Seen many Specialists. Am having pelvic physio and regular physio. It is not Pudendal neuralgia nor other nerve issues. Latest MRI said I have a lot of vascularity in my pelvis which might be the cause. I believe that means pelvic varicose veins. Can anyone throw some light on this subject? I'd be very grateful.

what does the pain feel like, and where exactly is it? Is it on moving, or when sitting too? Sorry, can't help with any ideas, but am interested as have been researching pelvic congestion recently. From what I've read, it's easily fixed with surgery. Not quite sure how you go about getting diagnosed. I've just been put on the waiting list for a new hip, as have had pain in the pelvic girdle for years. I'm wondering if there's other things going on as well as severe OA , as the pain is all over the place for me. Hope you get some answers soon,

My pain starts in my glute on the right and goes down into my pelvic floor. It's an achy pain, sometimes burning, worse when I sit or stand for a long time or when I walk a lot. Everything else that could cause it has been checked out but this showed up on a pelvic MRI. Good luck with your hip replacement.

Venous distension is very common. A diagnosis of the 80s with little evidence to suppprt it

You may need a venography. I just had one done this week to check for pelvic congestion. They go into your groin and check the veins with contrast and do a CT scan. It’s pretty invasive so they did give me sedation (though I was still awake… which did bother me a bit) I will find out the results on Tuesday (a week later). The interventional radiologist both diagnosis and treats.

Hope this helps?

Thank you. It really helps. Did you have a Doppler ultrasound before the Venography? Hope you have a good outcome!

Yes — they checked my veins in my legs and pelvic area with an ultrasound first. But most will say ultrasounds aren’t going to give you many answers for pelvic congestion. It’s a “fun time” dealing with so many tests that come up blank when we continue to suffer.

Thank you for your response. You're absolutely right! I've been seeing Specialists of each kind for approximately 3 years now. Hope this is the cause of pain. Health system is so awful in Canada, it will be months before I can even get an Ultrasound.

Update for you, Effie. I got an official diagnosis from my venography. I do indeed have pelvic congestion. The plan is to go back into my groin with guided X-ray and place stents in the affected veins. Thought I’d pass this along.

I am so happy for you and hope it brings you some relief. I am going to push my Family doctor for a pelvic Doppler ultrasound asap.
