Hi lamly

I also have anal fissures i know what your going through. Had mine nearly 7 months and can't heal it ive literally just been referred back to the colerectal dept this morning so waiting for that. Its constant pain and soul destroying. I'm in the uk and female. I so understand what your going through.

My family doctor has rang me about half an hour ago, to tell me I am on a waiting list since April they also wrote to the colorectal surgeon in August but still no reply, I am getting no where meanwhile I. Am housebound with my problem I have had mine about the same time as you, meanwhile the horrendous pain just gets worse. Let me know how you get on.

HI lamly

So sorry to hear your not feeling any better it's a vicous circle. It's more comfy to just relax isn't it I understand you there. I'm just waiting for a referral now back to the colerectal clinic so will see what happens. Are you in the UK? Not sure if its allowed but e could exchange numbers if you wanted to chat about this condition. I have a lot of self help tips that may just give you some respite. Try yo keep strong and positive. 🙂

i had a fissure in February of this year... it wasnt diagnosed until march... the pain was excruciating. I was given rectogesicgel to relax the anus but I dont think it did much. The fissure is still there...its now chronic so I have flare ups...but not the same pain as when i first had it. I use a sitz bath. I was given amitriptyline for nerve pain but it doesnt seem to have work. It's nota very nice condition to have or experience....but at it's worses sitting in warm water

HI lizcam

Sorry to hear that your still struggling. I am too it just never let's up. Like you I had mine in April and wasn't diagnosed till June by which time was chronic also. Did you change your diet for more fiber? I did this and have lost weight but you can't gain weight with fruit and veg! Every day is a battle around pain and discomfort I wish there was a quick fix, I'm trying to avoid surgery what are your views on the surgery route. Hope you keep strong and positive. 🙂

HI lizcam

I also was using rectogesic it did its job quite well for a while then 2 weeks ago I used it, my blood pressure dropped and ended up with the paramedics. That was scary as I live on my own so not using anything now just trying to cope till i get to my appointment. How is your fissure pain now? Do you still have painful BM and how do you cope with them. Your coping with ibs also which must be hard for you. Hope you don't mind me asking.

yes..... my gp warned me about it so I use it very sparingly.... and to be honest using a sitz bath does the job of relaxing the anal opening just as well.

I've had IBS for years...I find codeine works very well although have to be careful as it causes constipation! My pain in the morning is often relatively mild.... it's when I start moving about.... walking and driving that everything becomes sore and aggravated. The fissure seems to flare up and I'm not always sure why. I take laxido to try and keep stools smooth and I apply vaseline to the area.... I think I'm probably stuck with it as I dont want surgery....

I sometimes take codiene but they are very addictive it is so tempting not to take them, because take my pain goes away, yes Vaseline is very good all these prescriptions are a waste and only work so long, I also take FibreGel but it only makes me go to the loo more, I will give Laxido a try.

hi lamly.... Well done on the weight loss....that's brilliant.... I was a good weight two years ago but have gained over the past year which doesnt help anything. My GP suggested surgery for the fissure....I nearly fainted..lol...I'm such a wimp when it comes to hospitals etc... so for me it's a no no.....I would certainly research it well if I considered it though. I'm still confused how mine was missed even though I had a rectal exam twice.! I do try and keep the fibre up as much as possible but also take laxido as have IBS and a tendency to constipation. I think i mentioned the sitz bath.... I bought mine online ....it fits over the toilet.... we only have a shower room so no bath. Fortunately I have some rectogesic gel left so have just used a small amount.... although I'm not sure how effective it is. It's certainlya very painful condition and flares up ... although the discomfort has never completely gone. Thank you for replying.... although I'm sorry you are also suffering it does help to know you're not alone
