After a colonoscopy last month showed no obvious reason for rectal pain, my GI doc recommended a compounded rectal suppository used twice a day. It has a steroid, lidocaine, muscle relaxant and something used for high pressure that’s supposed to help rectal pain. After 12 days on this, it really did make a big difference. I also started walking at least a mile a day. About two days after the prescription ended, I started becoming symptomatic again. So, I refilled the medication. I don’t have a definitive diagnosis at this point. I see my neurologist Aug. 1, and will see what his thoughts are.

I am trying to get some of the anal suppositories but my colorectal doc has me on flexeril which helped a lot but I want to change to the cream since I don't want to take pills and Flexeril should be short term ....maybe it's should go to colorectal doc but not am hoping my gyno will prescribe it since it is all pelvic floor related

I checked with the compounding pharmacy and the rectal suppositories contain: hydrocortisone 2%. Lidocaine 2%, sucralfate 7% and nifedipine 0.4%.

I have had good results so far with using these twice daily. I refilled it because the symptoms started returning after two days without it. That concerns me, but for now I’m on it and have another ten day refill after this one.

That is great! Can you please give me the breakdown of the ingredients? There is a compounding pharmacy in my town & I think one of my (many) specialists would write me a script. I have only tried valium suppositories, and it didn't help all that much:(

Hi,

The ingredients are: hydrocortisone 2%, lidocaine 2%, sucralfate 7%, nifedipine 0.4%.

I have had good luck with this so far regarding rectal discomfort. I don’t really have a diagnosis yet.

Good luck! It’s worth a try.

Best,

Andi

Thank you so much! Hope you continue to feel better:) I will definitely try to get a script when I see my doctor in August!

Best to you as well,
