Hi all. I was wondering if anyone in the community has had The problem Of tight hamstrings leading to contraction of muscles in the pelvic floor? A few weeks ago a therapist advised that I stretched my hamstrings but what happened is that they actually got tighter (perhaps from sciatic nerve irritation that I was unaware of). Now my physical therapist cannot get pelvic floor muscles to relax and I am getting things like pain in The greater trochanters due to tightness In my external rotators. Furthermore, in situations like this it is apparently very difficult to calm down the hamstrings. If anybody has suggestions for how to go about this I would be very appreciative. Thanks

Hi Pelviccrusader,
If you've got a good physio, he/she should be able to show you a model or at least an illustration of how the muscles / fascia in the body as well as pelvic floor/diaphram/jaw are linked. If a dysbalance develops, all areas have to be treated in oder to restore balance in the body. From experience I know that this can take a long time and requires patience on the part of the patient as well as skill and experience on the part of the physio / osteopath etc. Too much stretching can sometimes be counter-productive.
