Acyclovir for fever blisters?

Some years ago I was prescribed Acyclovir cream for my mouth fever blisters rather than the oral medicine because the oral can raise liver enzymes. However I was recently told that the oral Acyclovir medicine works much faster and the increase in liver enzymes goes back to normal when Acyclovir is stopped. Does anyone with PBC take the oral Acyclovir and have you had any adverse experience?

Thanks,

I’ve taken it without a problem. If you start it when you have a tingly feeling you may not even get the fever blister.

Thanks so much for letting me know. My insurance would not pay for the cream. They said I should take the pill. My doctor appealed it but the insurance company refused. I paid for it myself. The cream wasn’t always that effective. It never stopped mine when the tingling started. It’s good to know you have taken the oral without liver issues. I will talk to my doctor about getting a prescription. May I ask what dosage you take when the tingling starts?
