Am stage 4, and have recently been told after my 6 month MRI that I have a large clot in the liver. A hematologist wants me on a blood thinners, that I have to inject, twice daily. Has anyone had a clot, and what did you do? I feel frightened.

Question about bloodclots & Anti- coagulants
I have not had a clot but what does your hepatologist suggest. I would imagine very close monitoring is necessary as if you go to decompensated cirrhosis bleeding is an issue.
I’m sorry to hea4 how things are going…. I’ve had a blood clot before and started injecting anticoagulants for the first week or so until they started another medication. The needle is very fine and seems scary about injecting into the stomach, but you really don’t feel it to much. Kinda like an insulin . It does leave some bruising but they don’t hurt. The clot breaks down over time. I was doubtful if anything was working until I had a repeat cat scan and it had completely gone. It’s good they caught it now because clots can be treated. Yes it is frightening…. I wish you well.
Oh, one more question--How long did you have to keep injecting the anticoagulant? Two or three months? Thanks for your help.
That’s a bit more complicated. My clot was in the arm.I was on injections for a week, then a once a day pill. Everyone is different , as is based on medical status/ concurrent conditions and so forth. The pill I was on about 6 months. With injections I believe there is regular blood testing required. The physician will be able to explain the part about duration and so forth and why some types of anticoagulants are used in some people and not others. Don’t be afraid to ask whatever questions u have.
Thanks very much. I've been feeling very down about this.
You got this!
Artsy123, I still am not on the anicoagulant. They can't seem to figure out which one to put me on to try to dissolve the liver clot. It's really frightening and depressing. I have Chronic Lymphocetic Leukemia to add to the confusion... I don't know if they will be putting me on Eliquist and/or some self injection called Lovinox. 😔
I have a history of DVT’s in my left leg and have been on both levonox and then Eliquis. The biggest concern will be keeping you monitored for bleeding because of the liver in particular. Work with your Hep and Hemotologist and they will help you through it. The injection isn’t difficult, so you can take that worry away. Best of luck… you can do this!
so much on your plate…… it’s hard to feel confident when there are so much unknowns. But if the situation became more urgent I would think they’d have you admitted in hosp to do treatment. The cancer clinic treating your CLL might have some sort of social work or support group. Our local hospital does. Sometimes we just need to say and talk about it out loud….here you are heard. Thinking of you
Did your doctor tell you what caused the clot? Good luck to you, it sounds like your doctor is on top of things.
Yes, stage 4. She said it's because of continual inflammation that's causing the scarring because of the PBC.
