I'm curious what to expect taking diuretics for my ascites. I have a large tense belly now. I'm losing 0.5-1.0 pound per day. Can I expect my belly to go back to somewhat normal size or is it so stretched that I will always looks somewhat pregnant?

It should go down as long as you cut salt and fluid intake per dr. Some find the continue to get ascites, however, until tx. Time with stretching matters of course. Like pregnancy is goes back most of the time

Thanks. I figure my belly is like being pregnant. Even if I end up with a poochy belly I’m ok as long as the pressure and weight is gone.

I have taken them for 4 years with no problems. I'm a slim build and I looked like I was 9 months pregnant when I finally went in. They took 5 liters out the first time and 4 the second. I haven't had as much as a round belly since.

Thanks. That is encouraging. I have had a large volume paracentesis also but they weren't able to take out all the fluid. I came out still with a swollen belly. I'm hopeful the diuretics do the trick but it's a slow process. My doctor says "be patient". I'm trying :)

That's the key, patience. It took me about 6 months to feel back to normal.
