I have been using turmeric for many years in my cooking.I have also heard that it is good for the health of the liver but since I started to use it long before I was diagnosed with PBC in 2008 I cannot tell if it has been of any use to me.

Thanks for your comment Imansmum. Although I now take it as a supplement I suppose I must have been consuming it for years in purchased Indian meals etc.?

I have just found what I was reading. Apparently it is good for inflammation but can clog up the bile ducts so thats why its not appropriate for PBC and should also not be used if you have gallstones. i knew i had read something....

Many thanks for your response Zipitydoo, although I find it difficult to believe it clogs up bile ducts. It has been used in cooking by millions of people for many years. It would be really helpful if you would let me know where you read about it.

Hi,

Yes the amount used in cooking would do you no harm its apparently when you take larger doses. I am a member of a yahoo group called PBCers aka Primary Biliary Cirrhosis Organization which is where I read the information. If you are a member you can just put turmeric into the search button and it will bring up the relevant posts. i have found the group very informative. Hope you do to.
