Have any other PBCers found they put on weight really easily and even with dieting and exercise it takes so much longer to lose?

Hi mimib,

I have gained weight since I was diagnosed last March. I have AIH/PBC overlap and take steroids, mercaptopurine and urso. I expect you are taking urso and in my own experience this has caused some weight gain. Not everyone is the same but there are some on this site who have put weight on since taking urso; and yes it is difficult to lose.

I even joined slimming world..this eating plan was good for 6 weeks where I lost 1.5 stones, but I am stuck now. I have not gained any more, but can't lose anymore either. Exercise helps, but the fatigue sometimes puts a stop to that. I dance twice a week as don't have the energy or interest to go to a gym.

Like many other medications as the body adjusts/gets used to the medication things sometimes stabilize.

xxconniefused.

Hi mimib,

I had gained weigh while I was on steroids a few years ago. When I came off them I had to lose weight and I went to weigh-watchers. I had to practically walk 4 miles every day while eating next to nothing to lose it. One year I caught really bad flu and and cold after cold I took ages to recover, eventually I put on all the weight I lost. I am trying again now to lose weight and eating very healthy but not losing as much as I would like. I do think having fatigue makes me less able to exercise, but not the PBC itself.

Although I'm not on the steroids anymore they have messed up my metabolism. I have never been overweight ever in my life before the steroids. I have AIH/PBC overlap as well.

Thanks for the responses.

I was walking between 2-5 miles a day till last year and this has gone down to more like 2 per day only, so definitely need to get back to it, but you are so right that the tiredness really doesn't help.

Am signing up for a sponsored walk 10km to assist with the motivation.

I can also feel salads days coming on fast.

I have gained weight and also have bad cellulite now too. And I'm sure it's because the body has toxins constantly in it as they aren't able to flush out properly. I don't over eat but look like I do which I find very distressing!!! My doctor says it has nothing to do with the pbc or urso - but I completely disagree!!

Not what you're looking for?
