my mother is the one diagnosed and im just trying to understand everything to help her. She seems to be getting tired easily and out of breath just walkin short distances. Should she bring that up on her next visit or is it part of the disease again?

Tiredness is certainly a symptom of PBC. I don't know how old your mum is but I am 63 and was finally diagnosed about 3 months ago. There is sometimes an overwhelming feeling of tiredness - you just seem to run out of energy (run out of "oomph" as I put it). Your mum must "go with it" and not fight the fatigue. If she knows there are certain things she needs to do then work her days around that - for instance if she knows she has to do something energetic one day then work her days either side of it so that she can take a rest. It is a very difficult thing to do if you have always been a busy person but you do have to change your lifestyle a bit with PBC. I am not saying that you have to lie around and feel sorry for yourself but if you can try and work your lifestyle around PBC you will cope with it better. She can certainly mention it on her visit to GP or consultant to put her own mind at rest but fatigue is an overriding factor in PBC along with the itch (which luckily I don't have at the moment). You do your part by continuing to support her as you are doing.

Good answer. I have a very busy life but on the odd day I feel very lazy and think "Ah well that can wait til tomorrow" and I accept that I need a relaxing day before I get up steam again. I am 72 and have known I have PBC for 12 years.

I am 66 and have known about my diagnosis for almost a year now. I also have my lazy days and accept that sometimes my get up an go has got up and gone. I read more and relax more, so the time not doing is not wasted. The fact that she has been out of breath may or may not be related to PBC. I certainly would tell the doctor about it. May I suggest she keeps a health diary. Anytime she has an experience she should note it and share the information with the Doctor as to what she was doing when she felt out of breath. You didn't say if she is overweight.

Thank you all. Healthangel my mother has lost lots of weight since her diagnosis 4 years ago. She barely weighs 110 pounds if even that. I am starting to go with her to all her appointments so I will bring it up to the dr. Again thank you all.
