Are people with PBC not surpose to eat chocolate at all?

Well fortunately for me I'm not much of a chocolate consumer BUT I will have some regardless of having PBC!
I had a snoop on the website of Cadburys knowing they sell milk, dark and white chocolate. The dark (or plain) is less in calories (and fat) than milk or white, white being the highest in fat content.
There is supposed to be iron in dark chocolate by the way.
I like eating the instant porridge that we make with milk and normally add a bit of oat bran and also some fat-reduced cocoa powder at breakfast.
I think with everything regardless of PBC or not, eating something in variation is probably the sensible option. Some people on this site say that eating certain things, chocolate seems to be one doesn't go down with them too well these days but I'm not experiencing a problem with chocolate but again, I'd reach for a plain biscuit or pudding without chocolate any day.
Havent heard that one before ....or if I have I have forgotton or chose to ignore it. I have no problem eating chocolate...my problem is just being able to put it down.
Whoooo! I'm a chocoholic, I love the stuff, usually eat the plain 70% cocoa solid type, I limit myself to just 3 squares which weighs 15gms when I have it, I've not heard that anyone has problems with chocolate, or maybe I'm like Zipitydoo and I've chosen to ignore it. ??
I think not in the amount I'm able to, but in normal "speed" why not? It makes us happier and we have plenty of restrictions plus each of us some special problems... Keep up: take some squares!

I've never read that we should avoid chocolate. I suppose it generally has a high fat content but I can't think of any other reason why it should be avoided. It's as near as i get to a mood enhancer
Certainly hope not. That's the only vice I have left! I can't see why it should be a problem but as with anything else perhaps moderation is sensible.
Agree with all of the above. No one told me to cut anything out completely, everything in moderation. Only issue is Cholestoral, chocolate no good for that if up it's high you might need to limit.

Despite chocolate being a lovely treat, I myself like Dinny will only eat a small amount due to the high fat content plus of course in my opinion, bile acts like a detergent on fat and I assume that the more fat we eat the more bile we need and that might not be as good with one with PBC.
But it's for me something that is definitely not to be cut out if one fancies some.
So far I've not been informed by anyone in the medical profession to cutting some food item out of my diet. Despite getting asked constantly about alcohol prior to diagnose that's not even been mentioned as in limiting or avoiding (I ceased the occasional drink after my first abnormal LFT in 2010. Don't miss alcohol as was something not in habit of anyway. Of course it is different with chocolate as even tho' I don't consume a great deal I do occasionally feel the urge. I love Milky Ways by the way, they are a sound little treat).
I am not a chocolate lover either, but do enjoy a bit every now and again.

I was told by a leading doc in the UK that we should eat a balanced diet, and unless our specific medical needs dictate certain exclusions, then a bit of everything is ok. Even an occasional alcoholic drink !
Remember fat is an important part of our diet, our bodes need it! we need to make sure however that it is the right type of fat we eat and obviously not too much. x
Hi guys, been off line a while due to house move and not getting internet and phone until Friday..Bt engineers are crap....also had gall bladder removed 3 weeks ago am ok except for pain near my right kidney..not sure if this is normal after keyhole surgery..hurts when breathe in...On Fri doc said nothing to worry about, but I'm not so sure...anyways back to this chocolate thingy.....I have AIH and PBC am taking steroids which I hate....my steroid brain tells me I can eat loads of chocolate, sweets, and carbs. I know I am not supposed to eat too many, but how do you stop the steroid cravings..I don't have a big appetite in fact can't eat on some days and I am fed up with self over this and refuse to go out...I hate how I look..moon faced and podgey..I have put on weight which I do not need because I can't exercise how I used to......I have even now started doing my shopping on line as refuse to go out looking like this. Yesterday I tried to eat salad and chicken which I love..but just mad me sick..my liver/body would only let me get chocolate down..I am not kidding cried my eyes out I wish I could get back to normal again.
These diseases are nasty, and it's time we had a cure for them....I also take urso and mercaptapurine as could not tolerate aizathioprine.....it is 8 months since my diagnosis and still I am not well....

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks, and thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Before I was diagnosed with PBC, my specialist thought my symptoms were most consistent with Wilson's Disease- a rare genetic disorder which causes copper to build up in the liver.
So, I was told to avoid foods that are high in copper, including chocolate
(Fortunately for me, my specialist kept running tests because my blood work didn't quite match up with Wilson's disease).
When I finally got my PBC diagnosis (about 3 months ago) my liver specialist told me that PBC can also cause copper to build up in the liver. But, she told me that I can go back to eating foods with copper in them if I wanted to. I bought myself a bar of dark chocolate the very next day.
I've never heard this. I'm a chocoholic, but due to vanity (weight gain) I have chocolate occasionally as a treat! The only food restriction I'm aware of is raw fish! So my sashimi days are over!!
