Hi I was told not to take anti inflammatories, such as diclofenic (sp) when I was diagnosed with PBC. I can take a few paracetamol, no more than 4 a day, if I get a migraine or the like. Maybe check with gp or consultant, it was my consultant that told me rather than the gp.

I took them for my back, but I now try and do strengthening exercises to reduce the pain. Hope you sort it out.

Hi nellysarmiento

I have been on anti-inflammatory medication for the last month and when visiting my GP for a repeat script she printed off information for me which you may also find useful..... you can find it on:

patient.co.uk/health/Anti-i....

My GP warned me that regular use of anti-inflammatories can cause stomach problems in the long term. I have been prescribed Naproxen anti-inflammatory and Omeprazole to prevent any stomach upset from taking them. The same GP previously prescribed regular paracetamol (8 a day) with Tramadol as a top up when the pain got too much, but the Tramadol made me feel really strange so I stopped taking them. I had previously only taken pain killers when the pain got too bad but she told me to take them on a regular basis to keep me topped up so to speak. I was taking the paracetamol every day for the last 6 months but on a recent visit to my surgery because I could not keep my pain at a managable level...basically I was in so much pain I couldn't sleep and then was unable to function. I saw a different GP (same practice) who was really concerned I had been told to take paracetamol regularly and told me to cut them down to 6 a day for the moment and put me on Naproxen. He alarmed me so much I have not taken paracetamol since and just take the Naproxen twice a day. I only wish there was something else I could take that would not have side effects. Unfortunately my pain is still quite bad but don't know what to do for the best.

Hope the link provides you with some answers to your questions.

Best wishes

What you also have to be concerned about is internal bleeding from anti inflammatories. This happened in my case and now all that is recommended for me is Tramadol.

Hi,

Before a back operation last year I was in terrible pain, bone was growing into my sciatic nerve! I was only allowed to have paracetamol by my consultant however hard I pleaded. I have to say it didn`t do a lot for me.

My consultant does not want me to take paracetamol but wants me to take ibro, my GP does not want me to take ibro as it causes stomach problems but wants me to take paracetamol, so stale mate, they have now put me back on Tramadol at a reduced dose as I was halucinating last time I had them.............to be honest I feel like giving up and just suffering :o) between the two of them I feel like piggy in the middle.

Tramadol made me feel really strange. I can't say they made me hallucinate but my eyes could not focus clearly. I did not like the feeling they gave me at all.

Hi!

My dr and consultant both agree don't take ibuprofen. I have prescribed paracetepol tablets and codeine tablets so I can regulate depending on how bad the pain is.

I find a couple of Solpadeine Max do the trick a treat!

Get with a rheumatologist who is willing to communicate with your hepatologist.

my knee started swelling last march, i have had back, shoulder, neck and hip pain for a while before this but docs were reluctant to do anything (had tried Tramadol but made me feel weird). Eventually because of the swelling i managed to get the doc to send me for MRI on my knee, diagnosed with osteoarthritis.was put on Naproxin 500mg twice a day ( i already took 15mg lanzoprazle for hiatus hernia). was just starting to get my life back , feeling more flexible, less pain etc and the swelling gone down. then i started to get a lot of discomfort in my stomach and needed to be sick before the pain subsided ( all the symptoms of my hiatus hernia/stomach probs i had years ago), mo signs of bleeding. stopped taking the naproxen for a couple of weeks, all joint pain returned but stomach returned to normal. saw doc and am now on half the dose of Naproxin and double the dose of lanzoprazol, so far ok but still got some pain. Note that Naproxin can increase your AST levels in your blood tests so your consultant needs to know that you are taking them.
