Acid reflux: Hi everyone, does anyone else... - PBC Foundation
Acid reflux
I have acid reflux. Have it for the past 20 years. It started 10 years before I had PBC. So, in my case, it has no connection to PBC. I still have it, and take anti acid pill, Nexium, 20 mg daily. Generic for Nexium costs less. I buy it at Costco (in the US). Good luck!
i was also suffering with acid reflux. now i am better, i am not feeling that burning any more. with a sever diet (no coffee no green tea no fried food no lemon juice no orange juice and all my food cooked with olive oil. and no white bread), i am taking a teaspoon of CHIA seeds in a cup of water every morning after breakfast for 2 weeks. now, i am good no more burning at all). the key is the CHIA SEEDS. has fibers on that help to digest food and protect esophagus from dryness.

I had acid reflux for years in my early 20s. Then, I lived on Gaviscon. Today, having dove deep into holistic health, I’m not so sure that wasn’t the beginning of my gut issues and PBC. Today, I have learned A LOT about stress management and I practice what I preach. I walk a lot and exercise. I meditate. I have RADICALLY changed my diet since then. I left my stress-inducing verbally abusive ex-husband, and I also do things that may seem counterintuitive, like drinking the juice of a half lemon in 8oz of water first thing every morning. Since leaving the ex I have never needed another Gaviscon.
The functional medicine view about reflux is that you don’t produce enough stomach acid and your intestinal motility is low. This fullness and gas pushes acid up and out into your esophagus. If you a) supplement with a digestive enzyme; and b)chew your food until it is liquid; and c) build up your stomach acid production with the lemon (also you can add a dash of cayenne, a bit of grated ginger and a tiny bit of raw honey or 100% real maple syrup); and work on ways to de-stress whatever that means for you; your food will go into your intestines partially digested as it is meant to do and your reflux will go away.
Will definitely try this, thank you.
Let me know if it helps. I have never taken an antacid again after making a number of lifestyle changes including these.
