Hot flushes : Hi everyone is black gosh good... - PBC Foundation
Hot flushes
I would think that is a question for your specialist since it is an herb. Opinions vary but my hep says no to all natural herbs. I take nothing that isn’t approved by him.
I would agree, when I was diagnosed, a couple of years ago, my consultant told me to avoid over the counter supplements in general.
I echo the thoughts of the other two ladies. Interestingly there was a conversation yesterday on the PBC Foundtion's Q&A session with Professor Jones. You could if you have time catch it up on Facebook. This herb was not mentioned specifically just how menopause can impact on those of us with PBC. I think it was quite a way into the session. I don't think taking just one tablet such as black cohosh would be good, however have you ever heard of the menopause cake, there are quite a lot of different recipes but basically it is full of lots of good stuff, most of the ingredients are high in phytoestrogens, the oestrogen-like compounds found in soya, linseeds and some dried fruits. Be careful of to many dried fruits as they can be very sweet and fattening. I used to make this for myself and take it to work as a lunch, I seem to remember having sunflower seeds, walnuts, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds etc so it was quite filling. If your hot flushes are really bad and you think of going down the HRT route then yesterday it was mentioned that the patches are better than taking a pill. Hope you find it helpful.
best wishes
I was told by my G P not to take black cohosh as it is bad for the liver
