Is there an alternative to Ursosan

I have been taking Ursosan for years now for PBC and am noticing, hair loss.

Have heard of another drug caller,(I think) Ocaliva which doesn't have this side affect. Has anyone else tried it?

Hi Ash322

I’m taking Ocalivia and still getting hair loss, I am feeling a lot better on it but think that’s down to me not really responding properly to Urso (was on for 6 1/2 years. If in UK there are requirements you need to meet medically before being prescribed as it is very expensive. X

Thanks for that. I just read about it online and didn't see the side affects mention hair loss. I came off Urso for awhile but my levels went up again. Back we go :(

Did you stop urso without consultant say so? Normally you are on it for life unless a non responder xx

I asked the specialist and she gave a rather lame reply, "If you want to,". No warnings or anything. When I did, my levels went up, so I went back on it.

I have been on Ocaliva 3 years. I have had no side effects from it. If your dr offers it, I’d say it’s worth it. Yes it’s very expensive. My dr signed the form for me to get it. He knew it was unaffordable and I was contacted by Interconnect Support Services, which works closely with Intercept Pharmaceuticals. They are great to help.

My hair loss turned out to be zinc deficiency and female pattern hair loss. I think if the thyroid is out of kilter then that can also affect hair loss maybe worth checking out other reasons as well as the URSO.

I agree with thyroid causing it. I’ve been there as well. 😊

I’m on both meds and still have hair loss. It comes and goes I believe my overall health and stress are factors more than the medications.
