Are people with pbc at a higher risk of catching the coronovirus?
Coronoviris: Are people with pbc at a higher... - PBC Foundation
Coronoviris
Hi,
I have PBC. I take stuff to keep my immune system built up year round. My husband has caught colds and flu over the years and I keep everything sanitized. I even ban him to another room etc. I have completely escaped catching what he had MANY times.
***But.....if you take medication that suppresses your immune system i.e. immunosuppressant drugs, (which URSO is not) than you may be at a higher risk of catching stuff. As always, check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Stay safe everyone😷❤
Any illness can hit someone with PBC harder than a healthy person. Our livers job is to remove toxins from our bodies. So when our livers are already compromised, any illness places more strain on the body. This is a very serious virus. Best to self isolate, you don't know who is walking round with no symptoms but still infections. I've been self isolated for the past week and intend to keep in isolation until this virus is defeated. Thst may be months. Stay safe, stay home, good hygiene, keep distance, be kind, think of others and look out for each other.
As an RN with PBC, at the very least, I would think we are at a much higher risk of a autoimmune flare if we are exposed to the virus. I have experienced a worsening of joint pain and fatigue after fighting off a cold. Our immune systems tend to be aggressive against our own tissues. If stress can amp up our immune disease, I'm quite certain pathogens and viruses can. Stay safe!
Hi I have pbc I've had a cold still fill very tired seems to be tacking ages to go I'm concerned I've been home from work for a week not sure if I should self isolate thinking just to take one more week of and go back I work with 2 vulnerable adults it's very vague with the government who is at greater risk x
The American Liver Foundation says that we are more vulnerable. I should think that any major organ with issues might make a difference, although I am not medical. Best.
