Hi everyone thanks for such useful help and advise on this forum. My question is can you be symptomatic with normal liver results and an AMA M2 confirmation. Mine is showing AMA IGg 1.16 is this a weak positive ?

I’ve upper abdominal pain (right side) nausea, bloating, constipation, dizziness, bone pain, headaches, dry eyes and mouth.

I’ve also suffer with vitamin D deficiency and CFS/ME. I’ve eliminated gluten from my diet and feel less bloated the last 2 days however I’m still feeling off kilter. X

Hi there, I am also in the same situation as yourself, AMA strong positive but normal liver results. I do have symptoms, an intermittent itch and an aching body like I permanently have the flu. It does feel like I’m in limbo a lot because i do not have a definitive PBC diagnosis but I am experiencing the symptoms. When I asked my hepatologist about it, she reckoned that my symptoms were down to the PBC even though I don’t officially have it yet.

Hope this helps.

I’m sorry your going through this too. Do you remember what your AMA reading was? I’m worried I’ll go there with a list of symptoms and they’ll think I’m a hypochondriac 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi Lochcarron, sorry to hear you’re experiencing some troublesome symptoms. I’m familiar with AMA titres given (in UK) as a ratio, with anything greater than 1:40 considered a positive for diagnosis of PBC along with certain abnormal LFTs.

I’m not clear what format your result is in - a ratio or whole number plus fraction. I hope your doctor can clarify the meaning of your results for you and that you get some answers soon.

Best wishes

If PBC has become active you will have an elevated GGT ( this is an LFT that they often don't ask for as part of a normal LFT screen), and you will also be positive for Igm, which is an immunoglobulin. Ask for these blood tests, and if they come back positive then there is a very good chance that you do have PBC.
